Tennessee junior college commit Tyler Myatt, an infielder from nearby Walters State Community College, went undrafted this week in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft. The slugger was considered a draft risk throughout the process, but one with a great chance of making it to campus either way.

With Tennessee surviving the draft with Myatt, the Vols have another power bat in the fold for next spring.

Myatt was named the National Junior College Athletic Association DI Player of the Year and Perfect Game Junior College Player of the year following the 2025 campaign. The redshirt freshman not only led Walters State in average (.484), home runs (31) and runs batted in (110), Myatt led all of junior college – leading the Senators to a national championship game appearance this past season.

The infielder, who was primarily the designated hitter for Walters State this season, scored 93 runs, tallied 105 hits, 20 doubles and 220 total bases across 66 games. Myatt recorded an incredible 1.014 slugging percentage and tallied a .583 on-base percentage, walking 46 times while striking out on 48 occasions.

Myatt was an unranked player by Perfect Game in the Class of 2023 out of Claiborne High School in Tazewell, Tenn. was also named the Perfect Game Player of the Year for junior college after winning the offensive triple crown in 2025.

The slugger broke single-season records for home runs and RBI this past spring for Walters State and is playing for the Kingsport Axman of the Appalachian League again this summer, just as he did in 2024. The slugger is currently hitting .310 trough 10 games with two home runs and seven runs batted in. He’s walked 11 times and struck out on just seven occasions.

Myatt told Volquest at the time of his commitment that he would take the MLB Draft in stride, but his focus was on playing for his hometown team.

“I’m not really thinking too much of it. Me and my family have talked. If it happens, it happens,” Myatt said. “Just the numbers, they have to be right just for me to live. When you get drafted, you’re kind of signing your life away a little bit for seven years, no matter what. I need to make sure that if I’m ready for that, the money is okay for me to live off of for seven years.

“But right now, I’m wanting to wear orange.”

Coming into draft weekend, Myatt was slated as the No. 466 draft prospect by Baseball America.

Scouting Report from Baseball America

“Myatt was the most dominant hitter in junior college in 2025. He was named the NJCAA Division I player of the year after he won the juco triple crown and led the country with a .484 average, 31 home runs and 110 RBIs. Myatt slashed .484/.583/1.014 and set the Walters State (Tenn.) JC record for home runs and RBIs while tying the hits record at 105. Myatt is filled out and physical with a 5-foot-11, 205-pound frame and plenty of strength, though there are some limitations to his game. Myatt is not a great athlete and he doesn’t have a clear defensive home. He’s played a bit of second base and third, but also spent a solid amount of time in the lineup as a DH. Myatt is committed to Tennessee, where he’ll have an opportunity to prove his hitting chops against better competition and potentially add more clarity to where he can play in the field. He could be a draft target for teams in the 11-20 range purely on his production.”
