Tennessee’s 2025 SEC slate as been set and as expected it’s just a venue swap for the league opponents the Vols will play in 2024.

The league is playing an 8 game league schedule this fall and will do the same in 2025 as the SEC expands to 16 teams.

This fall, Tennessee plays on the road at Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia and Vanderbilt while hosting Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, and Mississippi State.

In 2025, the Josh Heupel and the Vols will welcome Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia and Vanderbilt to Neyland Stadium while playing at Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, and Mississippi State.

Before conference expansion, Oklahoma was scheduled to play in Neyland Stadium in 2024. Their trip to Rocky Top will be their first since a double overtime win in 2015. That same year the Vols lost to Arkansas in Neyland Stadium 24-20 which marks the last time the ‘Hogs have been to Rocky Top.

The Vols trip to Starkville in 2025 will be their first trip to State since 2012 in a game they lost 41-31.

The 2025 schedule format was approved by a vote of the SEC Presidents and Chancellors last week following a recommendation from the league’s Athletics Directors.

Conference scheduling will again be a hot topic in May when the SEC meets in Destin, Florida for their annual meetings. The question is will they remain at 8 conference games beyond 2025 or will they go to a nine game model now that the expanded college football playoff format is set.

“We continue to monitor changes across college sports as they relate to future scheduling,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling.”

Sankey has indicated he would prefer a 9 game conference schedule but that’s not been the prevailing thought of coaches and athletic directors.

Tennessee is currently preparing for the 2024 season as the Vols are in the middle of week one of spring practice. They return to practice Thursday morning and Saturday morning to conclude their first four workouts of the spring. Spring practice concludes with the Orange & White game on April 13th.
