North Forney standout Legend Bey flipped his commitment from Ohio State to Tennessee this afternoon on National Signing Day. Following the decision, Bey detailed what went into the ultimate decision to wear Orange and White with Volquest.

Bey chose to flip to his commitment to the Buckeyes less than a month ago, so what led to the change of heart?

“It was a family decision,” Bey told Volquest Wednesday afternoon. “There was a lot going on. Still had that relationship with coach (Josh Heupel) and I just felt like coming back home.”

The Texas speedster always had a strong belief in how Tennessee will use him, and that was important to him as well as the process played out.

“As soon as I flipped back, TK (Tristen Keys) texted me and said I love you,” Bey said. “(Coach Heupel) is excited and wanting to do some crazy things.”

Kelsey Pope never gave up on Bey. The Tennessee wide receivers coach kept on working the relationship and was pivotal in getting the four-star ack in the class.

“It felt like he was still there for me and still wanted me,” Bey said of Pope. “It felt like that relationship wasn’t going to end, so I knew it was real.”

The Scout on Legend Bey

“Legend is the best football player I believe in the state of Texas with the ball in his hands,” North Forney head coach Marcus Shavers said. “I think he’s really good at getting the football down the field and I say that knowing that is a real general statement but I think he’s the best football player with the ball in his hands anywhere on the football field.”

North Forney plays him at quarterback and all over the field but it’s because he competes like nobody else.

“I think for him it starts off with the God given uncanny athletic ability,” Shavers said. “I mean he’s a guy that is 180-190 pounds that can run 10.2 in the 100 meter dash and squats over 550 pounds. He is a gifted athlete and then he’s a fierce competitor. He competes like a player that plays in the box like a O-Lineman or D-Lineman, linebacker type of grit he has to him when he’s carrying football. So when you add all those things together, he can run the football in between the tackles, he can get out on the perimeter. He has the ability to make people miss in space and he is just one of the best football players I’ve ever seen on this level with the football in his hands.”
