Marietta (Ga.) Kell High School standout Jowell Combay has officially signed with the Tennessee Volunteers and is set to start his career on Rocky Top.

“I am definitely on ten of ten about joining the Vols,” Combay told Volquest ahead of signing. “I am super excited. It is definitely a blessing to make it this far. I really just want to thank the people around me. This is definitely just a feeling of gratitude that I got to sign with a D1 college, and not just any college, but a great one like the University of Tennessee and knowing that I have a bright future ahead of me there. It is a great feeling to keep that going.”

Combay is ready to get to work and compete in the Secondary.

“I am coming in day one ready to work, and I think I can have a big impact,” Combay said of this. “I want to do the little things first, if that is watch film, lift, do whatever is necessary to try and get everything going and ready to play because that is the ultimate goal.”

The Scout on Combay

“I think the style of defense Tennessee plays, it is important for them to have guys that can do multiple things on the backend, and with Combay, he is someone with his size, length and ability to be a guy with the proper skillset on the backend. He plays high-level, competitive football at the prep level and is as seasoned as it will come. He is a guy that made a lot of plays—close to 100 tackles as a Junior.”- On3’s Vice President of Recruiting and Transfer Portal, Steve Wiltfong.

“Jowell Combay is a big, instinctive safety with physicality and ball skills. I think what impresses me about him is his ability to read routes. You see him jump routes and make plays on the ball. I think he had ten pass breakups as Junior. He also plays offense which you like to see. He is physical in run support. Really like the physicality and skillset. He is a guy who could roll down into the box as he gets bigger. He has the skills to make plays in coverage. He is a really nice pickup for Tennessee.”- On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings, Charles Power.
