Tennessee baseball hosted talented Wake Forest transfer Ethan Conrad last weekend as the staff is aiming to put the final touches on the loaded transfer portal haul this cycle.

The outfielder was on Tennessee’s campus on Sunday meeting with staff and checking out the facilities. Conrad is keeping his options open despite being a potential first round pick in the Major League Baseball Draft in two weeks.

Conrad is currently ranked No. 22 by Baseball America and No. 28 by MLB Pipeline in their MLB Draft rankings – despite missing the last two-plus months of the 2025 season with a shoulder injury. In Baseball America’s Mock Draft 5.0 released late last week, the outfielder was slated to go No. 30 overall to the Baltimore Orioles.

“Conrad has a case to go inside the top 10 on talent alone, as [Chase] Burns and [Seaver] King did last year, though shoulder surgery that cut his 2025 season short after just 21 games could prevent that from happening,” the publication said on the prospect. “Conrad has a big league frame at 6-foot-3, 220 pounds and has done nothing but hit and hit for power in his college career, first at Marist and then in the 2024 Cape Cod League and finally in a brief stint with Wake Forest.”

At Wake Forest as a junior in 2025, the outfielder was crushing it through 21 games prior to injury, hitting .372 with seven home runs and 27 runs batted in. Conrad scored 30 runs, tallied eight doubles and stole four bases while walking 18 times and striking out on just 14 occasions.

“He has a quiet setup in the box with few moving parts and fires a short and direct lefthanded swing that leads to plenty of contact and power. Conrad’s one big offensive question might be an overly aggressive approach, though he was well on his way to improving that reputation before he was sidelined with injury,” Baseball America continued on Conrad. “He has a chance for an above-average hit tool with above-average power. Conrad is an above-average runner who could stick in center field in pro ball. He has experience at all three outfield positions as well as first base, but he was Wake’s everyday center fielder and looked solid there in 2025, with an average arm.”

The transfer portal target was named First-Team All-MAAC with Marist in 2024 and was appointed to the All-MAAC Rookie Team as a freshman the year before. In two seasons at Marist, Conrad hit for a .359 average with 12 home runs, 84 RBI, 90 runs scored, 27 doubles, 15 triples and 38 stolen bases.

Tennessee has nine transfer portal additions thus far in this cycle and are aiming to end on a high note. The Vols could also still be in the market for pitching and infield help, depending on how many more portal targets the staff wants to add.
