In my humble opinion, cardinal and gold thoughts on what I see, what I hear, and what I think from Los Angeles: The call: In discussing with friends last week’s IMHO Sunday, which referenced late Kansas City Chiefs head coach Hank Stram’s famous Super Bowl IV “65 toss power trap” - a legendary offensive terminology play-call that got former Trojans’ tailback Mike Garrett into the Minnesota Vikings end zone, it got me thinking during the week about famous terminology play-call names in USC offensive history. The Call – Part 2: From the John McKay era to the present, there is always one sharp sportswriter that in a post-game media session asks the terminology name of a play-call that presents a dramatics USC win or contributes to its victory. Some of the USC play-calls are so famous that some of WeAreSC.com message posters use those terminology play-call names as their message board handle. In fact, before WeAreSC.com evolved into what it is today, your humble scribe did not go by my given name but used the handle “23-Blast.” Needless to say, in those early days of WeAreSC, readers tried like crazy to guess who was 23-Blast. One even suggested it was legendary late Trojans radio voice Tom Kelly as the insider.
