Saint Peter’s forward Corey Washington has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He averaged 15.9 points per game for the Peacocks this past season.

Washington put together a solid freshman season upon his arrival last season, earning MAAC All-Freshman Team honors as he averaged 6.8 points and 4.9 rebounds. This year, he took a big step, leading Saint Peter’s in scoring to help the Peacocks return to the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to Tennessee in the first round.

The Peacocks ended the season with a 19-14 overall record, including a 12-8 mark in MAAC play, to make it back to March Madness for the first time since their 2022 Elite Eight run under former coach Shaheen Holloway.

As Saint Peter’s returned to the March Madness stage, new coach Bashir Mason reflected on getting back to the big dance this year when asked if it put into perspective how difficult the 2022 run was. There has been plenty of turnover within the program since that journey, and he had some time to reflect.

“Absolutely,” Mason said after the Tennessee loss. “As I’m walking down here just quickly reflecting on the game and just also thinking about the history of St. Peter’s, the run here, I’m reflecting on who they beat to make it to the Elite Eight. Then you think about what our game was like tonight, that run we did two, three years ago, that was impressive. That was really impressive for that to happen for a small school in Jersey City.”

Latrell Reid was part of that tournament run in 2022 as a freshman. He developed into a key contributor for Saint Peter’s, ranking second on the team in scoring behind Washington. Reid also looked back on the 2022 season and said he had a feeling people expected something similar in 2024 with another matchup with a No. 2 seed.

But as is the case when the calendar flips to March, it’s hard to predict those moments.

“It goes to show how amazing that run was,” Reid said. “I know everybody was expecting something like that again, but it just goes to show how crazy this tournament is.”
