Former Kentucky star Maddie Scherr has committed to TCU, she announced Thursday afternoon on Twitter.

Scherr revealed earlier Thursday that she was moving on from the Wildcats and would have more news coming soon. That news is now out as she has committed to the Horned Frogs.

Maddie Scherr averaged 12.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this past season. She posted a note Thursday morning on Instagram revealing that she would no longer be playing in Lexington.

“Bluegrass girl for life! I’m so thankful for the opportunity to play for my home state with such an amazing community of support behind me. I have loved being part of this program and am forever grateful for the relationships and memories made. I do not take for granted any moment I got to wear Kentucky on the front of my jersey,” Maddie Scherr posted.

“With that being said, I’m closing the chapter on my time at Kentucky. Thank you again to all the fans and people who have helped me along the way. Stay tuned for another announcement here soon :)”

Maddie Scherr was a five-star recruit in the class of 2020. The Kentucky native was named the Gatorade State Player of the Year in each of her final two seasons of high school basketball.

Scherr signed with Oregon out of high school and played two seasons with the Ducks. During her time at Oregon, she appeared in 53 games, making 32 starts.

She averaged 3.7 points, 2.6 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game across those two years.

Scherr then returned to her home state of Kentucky to play for the Wildcats. During her first season in Lexington in 2022-23, she played and started in 29 games, averaging 11.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.1 steals per game.

This past season she had another excellent year for Kentucky, despite missing six games due to injuries.

TCU lands commitment from LSU women’s hoops transfer Hailey Van Lith

Maddie Scherr wasn’t the only big-time addition for the TCU women’s basketball program on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, LSU transfer and former Louisville women’s basketball player Hailey Van Lith committed to the Horned Frogs.

2024-25 will be Van Lith’s fifth and final college season after an action-packed career to date. Hailey Van Lith began her career at Louisville, spending three years with the Cardinals.

She averaged 11 points per game in her freshman season in 2021, when the Cards went 26-4 and advanced to the Elite Eight. In 2022, UL went 29-5 and made another Elite Eight, this time winning to advance to the Final Four where they lost to South Carolina. But Van Lith was the leading scorer on that group at just over 14 points a contest.

In 2023, Louisville struggled by their standings, losing 12 total games and finishing just fourth in the ACC. HVL still had a great year, though, carrying the offense with 19 points per game.

Of course, she chose to hit the transfer portal and joined up with the reigning national champions, LSU, for this past season. The Tigers were strong again, earning a 3-seed and making the Elite Eight with a rematch against Caitlin Clark and Iowa for a shot at the Final Four. The Hawkeyes were the victors this time around and Van Lith did not give her best performance in the regional final game.
