Former Michigan RB CJ Stokes commits to Charlotte
Former Michigan running back CJ Stokes has committed to Charlotte and head coach Biff Poggi, who previously was on staff under Jim Harbaugh with the Wolverines. Stokes will have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Stokes was an unheralded prospect who carved out an OK role behind star backs Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards in 2022 as a true freshman. Stokes appeared in 12 games and carried 55 times for 273 yards and a touchdown, plus a catch for 15 yards. But fumble issues likely cost him more work as a true freshman.
Then, in 2023, Michigan had converted linebacker Kalel Mullings as the No. 3 back and Stokes’ role diminished. He played in two games and carried just four times for eight yards this past season.
Stokes played high school football at Hammond (S.C.) School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 793 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
