Georgetown guard Dontrez Styles is planning to enter the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

The North Carolina native averaged 12.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this past season while starting all 32 games.

Dontrez Styles scored in double figures in 22 of 32 games during his first and only season with the Hoyas. He shot 43 percent from the field, nearly 37 percent from 3-point range and 77.6 percent from the free throw line.

Prior to coming to Georgetown, Dontrez Styles started his career at North Carolina. He played in 45 total games during his two seasons with the Tar Heels.

Styles was ranked as the No. 62 overall player in the country in the class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He attended Kinston High School in North Carolina and was named first-team all-state as a senior, before signing with UNC.

As a freshman in 2021-22, Dontrez Styles appeared in 30 games, averaging 2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He played a key role in North Carolina’s upset of No. 1 seed Baylor in the NCAA Tournament that season, playing a season-high 24 minutes 57 seconds. He set season highs in points (9), field goals (4) and steals (2) that afternoon.

In 2022-23, Styles had a lesser role for the Tar Heels, despite being a year older. He played in 15 games, averaging 1.4 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

Across two seasons at North Carolina, Styles averaged 1.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game on 41.9 percent shooting from the field.

Styles then entered the transfer portal, before ending up at Georgetown.

While Styles had a strong season at Georgetown, overall the Hoyas did not. They went 9-23 (2-18) last season, including an 18-point loss to Providence in the Big East tournament as Georgetown’s season came to an end.

TCU transfer Micah Peavy committed to Georgetown

While Georgetown lost Dontrez Styles to the transfer portal, it did recently get a big pick up.

Former TCU shooting guard Micah Peavy committed to Georgetown Saturday night

via his Instagram page. He averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game this year, bringing home honorable mention All-Big 12 honors.

Peavy said he chose Ed Cooley and the Hoyas over offers from Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, and Creighton, according to On3’s Joe Tipton.

Peavy managed to pull off just the third triple-double in TCU program history with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists against Arizona State. A dynamic defender, he tallied three or more steals in a game five times, including a season-high four against Texas A&M Commerce.
