Houston has landed an intra-conference transfer as former Oklahoma guard Milos Uzan announced his commitment to the Cougars after previously entering the portal this offseason.

A sophomore in 2023-24, Uzan averaged 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists as the de facto point guard for the Sooners, although he was pretty positionally versatile as a defender. But those figures were slightly up from his freshman year, where he averaged roughly seven points, two rebounds and three assists.

He also started 56 total games for the Sooners and shot the ball at a 33.9% clip from 3 over his two season, posting a 40+ percentage in 2023 before making just under 30% of his 3-point tries this season.

Following this past season, Uzan and the entire Oklahoma starting backcourt jumped ship and entered the transfer portal — including Javian McCollum and Otega Oweh. Uzan will stay within the league and join UH, a very nice fit for him.

Of course, the Cougars were one of college basketball’s elite teams all year long. If not for a rotten run of injuries, including to star player and All-American Jamal Shead, perhaps UH would have contended right alongside Purdue and UConn in April.

Looking towards next season, Shead has announced his departure after four years with Kelvin Sampson’s club to go and chase professional dreams. However, J’Wan Roberts will keep his seemingly-never-ending college career going with one more go-around at Houston in 2024-25, and LJ Cryer will do the same after transferring over from Baylor last spring.

Cryer and Roberts will come back as easy preseason All-Big 12 selections, but they aren’t the only key returners. Damian Dunn entered the transfer portal, but otherwise, Emmanuel Sharp, Ja’Vier Francis, Terrence Arceneaux, Mylik Wilson, Joseph Tugler and Ramon Walker all ought to be back.

That’s eight of the top 10 scorers and then adding Milos Uzan to levy the loss of a true elite point guard in Shead. With this addition, Houston might already just about have its official roster set in place — one that will garner a certain top-five ranking to open next season.

Uzan, a Las Vegas native, is a former four-star recruit and was the No. 86 overall player in the nation from the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was also rated the No. 13 point guard and No. 7 player out of Arizona for his cycle.
