Louisville has managed to flip Ole Miss defensive back transfer Tahveon Nicholson after he committed to the Rebels in December. He spent the first four seasons of his college career at Illinois and will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Nicholson was a starter at cornerback the past two seasons for the Fighting Illini. He helped them to rank No. 1 in scoring defense and No. 8 in passing defense during the 2022 season. The defensive back ends his career at Illinois with 66 total tackles, one interception, 15 passes defended and three forced fumbles.

As a recruit, Nicholson was a three-star prospect out of Palmetto Prep in Jacksonville, Florida, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Tahveon Nicholson rankings as the No. 391 overall player in On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. He is set to join a Louisville team that is coming off of a 10-4 finish and ACC Championship appearance in the inaugural season of coach Jeff Brohm.

Transfer portal numbers for Louisville

Tahveon Nicholson is the 25th player that Louisville has added through the transfer portal this offseason. Additionally, he is the third cornerback joining Tayon Holloway (North Carolina) and Corey Thornton (UCF).

The Cardinals have also seen 21 players transfer out this offseason. That ranks them No. 1 in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings with an index score of 86.

Tennessee edge defender Tyler Baron ranks as Louisville best transfer addition, coming in at No. 20 according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He is one of three players the Cardinals landed from inside the top 50, joining South Alabama WR Caulin Lacy and Toledo running back Penny Boone. Louisville also added former Texas Tech and Oregon quarterback Tyler Shough.

The Cardinals are coming off of a 10-4 season and ACC Championship Game appearance in their first season under coach Jeff Brohm. Their defense ranked a respectable 57th against the pass in 2023, but they’d certainly like to take a step forward as they aim to compete in the SEC.

Hopefully the additions of Nicholson and the other cornerbacks, as well as four safeties, can help them achieve that goal.
