The Memphis Tigers have landed former Alabama Crimson Tide guard Jahvon Quinerly via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

After gauging interest from NBA franchises, Quinerly decided to take his game back to the collegiate level for another season, but opted to look outside Tuscaloosa. Alas, his journey has led him to Memphis, where he’ll be lauded as a member of the Tigers.

A five-star prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking in the 2018 recruiting class, Quinerly initially committed to Villanova. He then spent one season with the Wildcats and played very sparingly in that time, averaging just 9.1 minutes per game in 25 games played that season. Quinerly averaged a mere 3.2 points per game that year, leading to his transfer to Alabama.

Afterwards, Quinerly had to sit out the 2019-20 season due to transfer rules, but has played for the last three years for the Crimson Tide. Quinerly averaged 11.7 points and 3.7 assists per game over the last three seasons for Alabama and has started 40 games in that time.

This past year, Quinerly averaged 8.7 points and 3.6 assists per game while playing an average of 21.2 minutes per game. Quinerly scored 22 points against Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to help his team advance but had just 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting in the Sweet 16 loss to San Diego State.

While Jahvon Quinerly holds Alabama in high regard, he’s doing what’s best for his game and his career, opting to take his talents elsewhere. It’ll be fascinating to watch the talented guard at Memphis.

More on former Alabama Crimson Tide star Jahvon Quinerly

While Jahvon Quinerly is on to the Memphis Tigers, it’s evident the Crimson Tide made a huge impact on him and his personal life, as he wrote an emotional goodbye to Alabama before entering the NCAA Transfer Portal.

“I can’t say enough about Alabama basketball,” Quinerly wrote. “My team, the staff and all my Bama fans have been the greatest. You have embraced me and treated me like gold since day one. The relationships I built have gone way beyond basketball and that’s something that has made my decision to enter the transfer portal so difficult for me. My basketball journey has been something that every student athlete could only dream about. It has definitely come with its share of ups and downs, but I was very fortunate to have such a beautiful support system to help me through some of my difficult moments, and I think that’s what’s making this message so emotional but also exciting to share with everyone.

“Part of my journey is taking risks and following my heart,” he wrote. “Sometimes as time goes on, we know it’s time to move on, take risks and follow our heart. But this is a truly bittersweet moment for me. In my time here, we have set records together, won championships together and we have made program history together. Thank you, Bama Nation. Forever. For everything.”
