Mississippi State is set to host Miami (Ohio) running back Rashad Amos next Thursday, a source told On3.

The former South Carolina transfer played in 13 games with the Gamecocks but had a breakout year in 2023 with the RedHawks. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound running back rushed for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ranked third in the Mid-American Conference in rushing yards and second in rushing touchdowns.

Amos is the top-available running back currently in the portal, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Portal Rankings. The third-team All-MAC selection would help fill a position of need for the Bulldogs. Jo’Quavious “Woody” Marks transferred during the winter portal window, landing at USC. Marks tallied 3,108 scrimmage yards and 27 touchdowns in four seasons at Mississippi State.

Miami, Ole Miss, UCF, Utah and Virginia are other programs in the mix at this point. Amos has not scheduled any other visits yet. With the NCAA allowing multi-time transfers to play immediately next season without securing a waiver, the running back can explore his options.

With Miami running back Henry Parrish expected to hit the portal, the Hurricanes are in the market this spring. Parrish was Miami’s leading rusher the past two seasons, rushing for 625 yards and six touchdowns on 100 carries. He started his career at Ole Miss; the Rebels are expected to be a factor.

A former three-star recruit, Amos rushed for over 100 yards in four games this past season. He had a career-high 180 rushing yards on 33 carries against Appalachian State in the Cure Bowl. During his time with the Gamecocks, he totaled 106 yards rushing on 20 carries. Rashad Amos also rushed for two touchdowns in the MAC championship game, defeating Toledo.
