Nebraska transfer CJ Wilcher has committed to Texas A&M, he announced Monday morning on Instagram.

Wilcher averaged 7.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game last season, including scoring two points against the Aggies in last year’s NCAA Tournament game.

The New Jersey native was ranked as a four-star recruit and the No. 108 overall player in the country in the class of 2020, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

CJ Wilcher signed with Xavier out of high school. As a freshman that season, he played in 15 games and averaged 3.3 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.

Wilcher then entered the transfer portal and eventually landed at Nebraska.

He was a key piece off the bench in 2021-22, averaging 8.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game as the sixth man for the Cornhuskers.

As a sophomore in 2022-23, CJ Wilcher moved into an even larger role, playing in 32 games and making 24 starts. He then helped Nebraska to the NCAA Tournament this past season, before entering the transfer portal for the second time.

Now he is off to Texas A&M where he joins a talented roster led by head coach Buzz Williams. The Aggies finished 21-15 last season, falling to No. 1 seed Houston in overtime in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Texas A&M, Purdue set for 2024-25 men’s basketball matchup

CJ Wilcher will be facing a familiar opponent with Texas A&M in 2024-25. Big Ten champion Purdue will face the Aggies next season, the schools recently announced.

The Aggies and Boilermakers will meet Saturday, Dec. 14 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

This will be the third all-time meeting between the two programs. They most recently faced off in the 2010 NCAA Tournament with Purdue earning a 63-61 victory to advance to the Sweet 16.

Purdue and Texas A&M are coming off excellent seasons. The Boilermakers and National Player of the Year Zach Edey advanced to the national title game this past season, before coming up short against UConn. Purdue advanced to its first Final Four since 1980 and its first under head coach Matt Painter.

As for Texas A&M, the Aggies went 21-15 (9-9) under Buzz Williams this past season.

Texas A&M made the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season under Williams and nearly advanced to the Sweet 16.

The Aggies earned a No. 9 seed in the Big Dance and knocked off No. 8 seed Nebraska, before falling to No. 1 seed Houston in overtime.
