New Mexico State running back Star Thomas has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

The Louisiana native put up impressive numbers during his time with the Aggies, rushing for 1,173 yards and nine touchdowns over the past two seasons.

Star Thomas was named second-team All-Conference USA in 2023 after rushing for 653 yards on 112 carries. He averaged 5.8 yards per rush and had four touchdowns on the year.

Thomas attended Homer High School in Homer, Louisiana prior to beginning his college career.

He spent one year at Coffeyville Community College before transferring to New Mexico State.

During his one season at the community college, Star Thomas topped the 100-yard mark twice, while helping Coffeyville to the 2021 KJCCC Conference Championship.

From there he transferred to New Mexico State and was immediately a big part of the offense. As a sophomore in 2022, Star Thomas appeared in all 13 games. He led the Aggies in all-purpose yards that year with 669.

As a sophomore, Thomas had 518 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns. He scored on the ground five times and added three receiving touchdowns.

Last season, Thomas had 853 all-purpose yards. In addition to putting up 653 yards on the ground, he added 22 catches for 200 yards and two scores. He also contributed as a kickoff returner this past season, returning kickoffs three times for 47 yards.

New Mexico State finished the 2023 season with an impressive 10-5 record, including a 31-10 victory at Auburn.

In that game, Thomas led the way with seven carries for 67 yards. It will be interesting to see if he now gets a chance to show what he can do in the SEC on a weekly basis or if he heads somewhere else.

There is sure to be plenty of interest in the all-conference performer, who has excelled throughout his time at New Mexico State.

New Mexico State quarterback Eli Stowers enters the Transfer Portal

Star Thomas wasn’t the only New Mexico State player to enter the transfer portal on Thursday.

Quarterback/receiver Eli Stowers has also entered the portal.

During the 2023 season, Eli Stowers played in 15 games. The majority of that time he spent at wide receiver. He had 35 receptions for 366 yards and two touchdowns. He also carried the ball 28 times for 108 yards and another two touchdowns on the ground. Stowers also had eight pass attempts and threw for 99 yards and a touchdown.

Prior to transferring to New Mexico State, Eli Stowers spent two seasons at Texas A&M, playing in three games during the 2021 season and two games during the 2022 season. He earned an Offensive Scout Team award at the annual team banquet for his 2022 season at Texas A&M.
