Oklahoma tight end Blake Smith recently entered the transfer portal in search of a new home. On Sunday afternoon, he found it. Smith committed to the Texas State Bobcats and he announced the move on his Twitter page.

Smith will be a graduate transfer with multiple years of eligibility remaining. He redshirted in 2021 and got a free year from the 2020 Covid season.

Smith featured mostly on special teams for the Sooners in 2023, his lone season in the program. He’d spent his first three years of college playing at Texas A&M, where he was mostly a reserve tight end, playing in seven games across three seasons. Smith may well be opting to find a place where he can find more pass-catching opportunities after being buried on the depth charts at his previous stops.

Smith played high school football at Southlake Carroll (Texas) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 560 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
