College Players Reaching Out Before Entering Transfer Portal Is Happening ‘More And More’ | 04.18.24

Former Ole Miss defensive lineman Joshua Harris has committed to North Carolina, via the NCAA Transfer Portal. He spent four years at NC State before transferring to Ole Miss ahead of the 2023 campaign.

In his lone season with the Rebels, Harris made 13 appearances, tallying 13 tackles. In five collegiate seasons, Harris has amassed 41 tackles and one sack. The North Carolina native announced his transfer decision on social media on Sunday morning.

“Thanks to all the opportunities but don’t have much to say ‘I’m coming home,'” Harris wrote on X, along with a picture of him in North Carolina attire.

Joshua Harris played high school football at Person (NC), where he was a four-star prospect there and the No. 257 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Harris is the seventh player North Carolina has added in the transfer portal this offseason. The team has also lost 19 players to the transfer portal, earning the No. 54 spot in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

North Carolina finished the 2023 campaign with an 8-5 overall record and 4-4 mark in conference play, tied for sixth place in the ACC. With standout quarterback Drake Maye entering the 2024 NFL Draft, the program must rebuild this offseason ahead of the 2024 campaign.

North Carolina QB Tad Hudson enters the NCAA Transfer Portal

Maye isn’t the only North Carolina quarterback moving on from the program. Earlier this week, quarterback Tad Hudson entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He did not see any action in his true freshman season for the Tar Heels, entering the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.

Hudson was a three-star prospect out of William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius (NC), where he was ranked the No. 482 overall player and No. 30 quarterback in the country for the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound pocket passer will look for a fresh start following just one season in Chapel Hill. Hudson amassed a 33-5 record as a high school starting quarterback. He threw for a school-record 7,325 yards and 76 touchdowns in his prep career.
