Ohio State transfer Roddy Gayle Jr. will be heading on visits to Creighton tomorrow and Michigan on Friday, according to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68. This past season, he averaged 13.5 points and 4.6 rebounds, while dishing out 3.1 assists.

His three-point shooting percentage took a dip this year from 42.9% last year to 28.4% this year. But Gayle has gotten more minutes this year (30.9 per game). The sophomore was a critical piece in guiding the Buckeyes to the NIT Quarterfinals, where Ohio State lost to Georgia, 79-77. One of his best games of the season came against the West Virginia Mountaineers, when he exploded for 32 points, drilling three of his seven shots from beyond-the-arc. The Buckeyes ended up winning that game 78-75 in overtime.

He played in all 36 games last year for the Buckeyes, making 35 starts. Gayle ranked third on the team in points per game. He scored in double figures 28 times last year. Gayle also dished out a career-high eight assists and had just one turnover at Nebraska. He also happened to tally his first career double-double with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds in his team’s win over the Cornhuskers on February 29th.

Ohio State had a very interesting season. They saw things turn around and turn around in a hurry after Chris Holtmann was dismissed and Jake Diebler was inserted as their interim head coach. He guided the Buckeyes to a 6-2 record as their interim head coach and led the squad to an upset victory over Purdue, 73-69. His impressive record as the interim was a big reason Ohio State decided to name Diebler as their head coach and remove the interim tag.

In his high school playing days, Gayle joined Wasatch Academy midway through their season in 2020-2021 and helped guide the team to one of their best seasons in school history. They earned a No. 5 seed in the GEICO National Tournament. While playing for Lewiston-Porter, he averaged 25.8 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and 2.3 steals per game as a sophomore. His freshman year with them, Gayle stuffed the stat sheet with 22 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, while leading Lewiston-Porter to their first Section VI basketball crown in 31 years.

When he chose Ohio State coming out of high school, he chose them over offers from Alabama, Syracuse, Xavier, LSU, Louisville, Wake Forest, Oklahoma, Oregon, Georgia, Kansas and many others.
