Report: TCU guard Micah Peavy plans to enter NBA Draft, NCAA Transfer Portal
TCU guard Micah Peavy plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal while also going through the NBA Draft process, according to Jon Rothstein. Peavy spent one season at Texas Tech before playing at TCU for the past three seasons.
Peavy played and started in all 34 of TCU’s game this season. The 6-foot-8 senior averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 45.8% from the field and 31% from beyond the arc. In his career, Peavy boasts 7.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game on 43.6% shooting.
Peavy’s highlight of the 2023-24 campaign was against Kansas State when he erupted for a season-high 26 points and three blocks. In TCU’s season-ending loss against Utah State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Peavy recorded seven points and seven rebounds while shooting 3-11 from the floor.
Micah Peavy played high school basketball at Duncanville (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 40 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
TCU finished this past season with a 21-13 record and a 9-9 mark in conference play. The Horned Frogs tallied at least 20 wins and reached the NCAA Tournament in each season Peavy was on the team. Peavy is the first player to enter the transfer portal for TCU this offseason.
While Peavy also claimed he will explore his potential NBA Draft stock, he was not included in ESPN’s 2024 NBA mock draft. He was the third-leading scorer for TCU. Nonetheless, at 6-foot-8 with guard skills, Peavy has serious upside.
Jamie Dixon praises team despite disappointing end to season
Despite TCU’s early exit from March Madness, head coach Jamie Dixon was proud of his team, including Peavy.
“We set all kinds of records, I know it’s not the best time to be thinking about it,” Dixon said after TCU’s loss to Utah State. “This wasn’t good enough, eight years ago it would’ve been a miracle if we got in. It hadn’t been done since I played, but right now we feel like we could’ve done more. Our goals were bigger and that comes with what we’ve done the last eight years I’ve been here.
“I spoke to our guys after the game about the type of kids we’ve had, which I’ve been saying all along, we have really good people, good character, high-character guys. I know it’s probably not what they wanted to hear after tonight’s loss, but ultimately that’s the most important thing. Love every one of ’em. They represented our school so well and they’re just good people and that’s the most important thing.”
