Brandon Angel signed with Stanford as a three-star recruit in the class of 2020. He was ranked as the No. 212 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Stanford finished this past season with a 14-18 (8-12) record.

Brandon Angel attended Torrey Pines High School prior to signing with Stanford. As a senior in high school, he averaged 20.7 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

As a freshman with the Cardinal, he appeared in 17 games off the bench, averaging 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Angel saw his role increase as a sophomore in 2021-22. He appeared in 32 games off the bench that season, averaging 7.7 points and 2.9 boards per game.

As a junior, Angel moved into a starting role. He played in 33 games, making 31 starts and averaged 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the field and nearly 40 percent from 3-point range.

He then had his best year yet in 2023-24, prior to entering the transfer portal.

Losses in transfer portal piling up for Stanford

Brandon Angel is not the only Stanford starter to enter the transfer portal. Earlier this month, leading scorer Maxime Raynaud went into the portal.

Raynaud started in 31 of 32 games he appeared in this past season to lead the team with 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He ranked third in the Pac-12 with a field goal percentage of 56.7%.

Raynaud arrived at Stanford in the 2021-22 season from France, where he was a teammate of San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama on Espoirs Nanterre. He was a member of the French national team and won a gold medal at the FIBA U-20 European Championships in Greece in 2023.

Raynaud made an immediate impact as a true freshman to average 4.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. It wasn’t until this year that he broke double digits in points per game, as he took a massive step forward.

Standing 7-foot-1, Raynaud also possesses range for a player his size with a career average of 34.6% from 3-point range. He’ll surely be a valuable addition for whichever team decides to pick him up.
