Vanderbilt sophomore guard Paul Lewis has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Lewis joined the Commodores ahead of the 2022 season, appearing in 25 games as a true freshman and making five starts. He averaged 2.9 points per game in 2022 and 4.4 points per game this past season, also adding 1.2 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game to his stat line in his 31 games and three starts.

He’s scored in double figures six times in his collegiate career, including a career-high 18 points this past season against Georgia where he knocked down four three-pointers. As he’ll know look to take his talents elsewhere for the remainder of his college career after Vanderbilt parted ways with head coach Jerry Stackhouse.

Lewis played high school basketball at Bishop O’Connell in Arlington (VA), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 242 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Vanderbilt transfer portal activity

Lewis represents the third player so far this offseason that’s already announced that they plan on entering the transfer portal for Vanderbilt. Joining sophomore forward Colin Smith and sophomore center Lee Dort.

Smith averaged 7.1 points and 6.6 rebounds this past season but only appeared in only six games for the Commodores due to injury. Meanwhile Dort averaged just 1.7 points and 2.1 rebounds in 17 games as a true freshman before making just one game appearance in the 2023-2024 season. Also missing time due to injury and notably arrested on charges of aggravated assault and strangulation in November of 2023.

The Commodores finished a disappointing 9-23 last season with just four wins in conference play following their best season to date under Stackhouse. Who took home the SEC Coach of the Year award and the Ben Jobe Award after leading Vanderbilt to a 22–15 record and their second straight NIT Quarterfinals appearance in 2023.

But his recent firing paired with the team’s subpar finish last season could surely result in more transfer portal activity this offseason for the Commodores program.

“I appreciate the opportunity that Vanderbilt gave me to broaden my experience with the sport that I love, and one that has blessed me in more ways than I can count,” Stackhouse said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to serve as the head men’s basketball coach for the last 5 years. My staff and I depart here extremely thankful for every opportunity we’ve had to help our players grow and develop on and off the floor.”
