Wheeler has appeared in 61 collegiate games with 46 at Louisville and 15 this past season at VCU. He has averaged 1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds on 48.1% shooting in seven minutes a game over his career. That includes statistics of 0.6 points, 0.7 rebounds, and a 57.1% field-goal rate in less than five minutes a game with the Rams this year.

Wheeler played high school basketball at John Marshall in Richmond, which is just down the street from VCU. He was a four-star prospect there as the No. 74 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He rated as the No. 12 C in the class as well while also being the No. 2 player out of the state behind only Trevor Keels (Duke, New York Knicks & Minnesota Timberwolves).

Wheeler came in as part of the No. 31 class in the nation per On3’s 2021 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. He was the top recruit in what was the program’s final full class while under Chris Mack. That group also included Mike James, Sydney Curry, and El Ellis with all three of those players also having already transferred once or are currently transferring from the Cardinals.

Wheeler is the first transfer to leave VCU in this cycle. The Rams have yet to make any additions in the portal to this point either. This all come after they posted 24-14 record out of the A-10 this season before losing in the quarterfinals of the NIT.
