Virginia Tech forwards John Camden and Lynn Kidd both entered the NCAA Transfer Portal on Tuesday according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Kidd started all 33 games for the Hokies this season, averaging a career-high 13.2 points per game and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per game in his third season at Virginia Tech. Standing at 6-foot-10, Kidd played center last season for the Hokies, transferring in from Clemson after spending his freshman season with the Tigers.

Year after year Kidd increased his production for Virginia Tech in nearly every stat category, averaging 0.7 points and 5.0 points per game in each season prior to his most recent breakout year. As he’ll now look for a third program to call home in his final college season.

Kidd played high school hoops at IMG Academy in Bradenton (FL), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 145 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Like Kidd, Camden transferred into Virginia Tech after spending one season at a previous school, joining the Hokies ahead of the 2022 season after spending one year at Memphis.

Camden has come off the bench for the Hokies last two seasons, appearing in 37 career games for Virginia Tech where he’s averaged 1.4 points and 1.0 rebounds per game. Highlighted by him scoring a career-high nine points versus Auburn in the ACC/SEC Challenge last season along with six rebounds.

Camden made multiple stops during his high school career, playing at Westtown School and Archbishop John Carroll before ending his career at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro (NH). Where he was an unrated, unranked recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. With two recruiting companies notably ranking him as a three-star prospect and a top 10 player coming out of the state of New Hampshire.

All in all Virginia Tech loses valuable size and experience heading into the 2024 season, with both Camden and Kidd standing at over 6-foot-7 with a combined 114 games in a Hokies’ uniform under their belts. As Kidd and Camden join Rodney Rice as VT’s transfer portal departures so far this offseason.
