Former Virginia Tech wide receiver Da’Wain Lofton has committed to Oklahoma State, via the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Lofton spent three seasons with the Hokies, making 36 appearances and 12 starts. In the 2023 campaign, Lofton tallied six receptions for 58 yards. He was also a key special teams contributor, making six tackles and recovering a fumble on a muffed punt against Tulane in the Military Bowl.

The 2022 season was Lofton’s best. He started 11 times that year, ranking third on Virginia Tech in receiving yards (254) and third in receptions (22). He also added two touchdowns, including a 53-yard bomb.

Lofton played in 12 games in his true freshman season. He finished his debut campaign with six catches for 98 yards and a score.

Da’Wain Lofton played high school football at North Side (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 952 overall recruit in the 2021 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oklahoma State builds talent in offseason

He is the fifth player Oklahoma State has added in the transfer portal. The group is headlined by former Arkansas running back AJ Green, who was a former four-star prospect. At Arkansas, Green amassed 951 rushing yards and six touchdowns, while also hauling in 19 passes for 184 receiving yards and two scores through the air.

Oklahoma State also has a massive incoming recruiting class, consisting of 18 three-star prospects. Head coach Mike Gundy is thrilled to add so many Cowboys ahead of next season.

“Most of these guys have been committed to us for a long time. We really like it,” Gundy said on National Signing Day. “It’s balanced. It’s a good number for the direction that we’ll go as we try to manage through the changes with rosters and such. Fifteen was the number we felt like would be fairly close to where it needs to be.

“This is obviously the first signing. There’ll be another one. There won’t be a signing, but portals, moving forward as we get into the latter part of January. And then again, it could change again with the portal window in the spring, but this will be the majority of it. It’ll be pretty close for the direction that we’re going.”
