Yale forward Matt Knowling enters NCAA transfer portal

Yale forward Matt Knowling has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3’s Jamie Shaw.

Kwowling spent the first four seasons of his college career with the Bulldogs, named a Unanimous First-Team All-Ivy selection in the 2022-2023 season and an All-Ivy Honorable mention this past season.

After his freshman year was canceled due to COVID-19, Knowling appeared in all 31 games and started in 18 of them in his first collegiate season. Averaging 7.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, also named to the Ivy Madness All-Tournament team after averaging 10.8 points per game on 63% shooting versus Ivy League opponents.

Knowling had a breakout season in year two for Yale, where he averaged a career-high 13.6 points per game along with 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Finishing 10th in the nation in field goal percentage for the season at 62.5%. Also named a two-time Ivy League Player of the Week and the most valuable player at the Rainbow Classic after averaging 21.3 points in three games en route to a tournament title.

In the most recent season, Knowling averaged 11.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game as he helped lead Yale to an Ivy League Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Where the Bulldogs would stun No. 3 seeded Auburn in a 78-76 upset win.

All in all, Knowling has played in 83 total games in his college career with 65 starts and has been a part of two Ivy League Tournament championship teams and won one regular season Ivy League title. Appearing in three NCAA Tournament games in his career where he scored 26 total points with 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and a steal in each game.

Knowling played high school basketball at East Catholic in Bolton, Connecticut, where he was an unranked, unrated recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. But he was tabbed as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports and ranked the No. 9 player in the state.
