Don't look at in state costs for PSU or Pitt or W&M then. They make RU in state look like a bargain.
You are very full of yourself, aren't you? You also lack reading comprehension if you have read any of my posts. Reasonable people are free to disagree, but you seem to be so in love with everything Rutgers, you think nothing is wrong with the University, and every other University in NJ that is not Rutgers and Princeton is inferior. Rider is a rival school in sports? That's news to me and probably others. I have worked with and met several people who attended Rider, and they were competent and happy with their educations.
Same for Seton Hall. I have a degree from Seton Hall in addition to Rutgers. Some student prefer higher education at a Catholic University, and SHU has some very fine programs, particularly in health sciences. And WTF does sports rivalry have to do with quality of education at a University?
And I stand by my original statement. Some students prefer small schools, smaller classes and not having to bus among 4 separate campuses to take classes. Some don't care about how their sports teams are doing, and based on many recent high schools and college graduates, there are a lot of these types of young people- they are interested in getting and education and could not care less about athletics. So next time you lash out, make sure you have your facts in order. I'm going to guess I have been on campus post graduation as an alum helping students and my school (COE) and have given many times more in donations than you ever will. And you know what? I respect opinions of those that are different than mine.

Also, where's all the SEC schools? I see only UF, Texas and Vandy ahead of us. Doesn't USNWR take into consideration which Tiktoks are popular with the ShopRite line?
We excel in everything. We have a great women's studies program, library sciences, history, poli sci, many other liberal arts majors as well as engineering, pharm and business.
Being the #14 public college is for a reason, as much as those reasons don't matter to a certain deranged in state demographic.
SHU has a solid law school and they passed RU in the rankings for LAW SCHOOL. That said, this is a ranking of national universities and RU is would be widely considered superior in just about everything else.
Saying RU is a top ranked university isn't a put down of other colleges. My law school is higher ranked than RU's, but OVERALL RU is a higher ranked, I can be proud of both things and not think I'm partially insulting myself.
We can't really compare RU to a state like NC for example where the state constitution demands tuition be as close to free as possible.
Looking at the Northeast where we and our competitors are dealing with state govs that love private schools, we are where we are supposed to be.
States like FL, TX, CA, MI the public is the default. Not sure we'll ever get there. But we're in a good place.
Rutgers is one of only 2 university systems with its flagship university and all of its satellite campuses in the Top 100 nationally in USNews. The other is the UC system in California which is incredible to think about since they have 2 co-flagships with Berkeley and UCLA and 8 satellites compared to Rutgers having its flagship in NB and 2 satellites in Newark and Camden.
A comparable system for RU is UMich, which has two campuses (Dearborn & Flint) besides the mothership in Ann Arbor. Neither of those two are in the top 200 in the national universities category. I don't know why UMich treats them as relative afterthoughts (massive rankings divide between AA and them) as though they don't resource those campuses well enough. It's quite an accomplishment that Rutgers has been able to keep Newark and Camden generally stable or improving in the USN rankings of late.

It’s interesting because i am proud of my 2 RU degrees- it’s a really good school with lots of very good students. But I didn’t encourage any of my 3 kids to apply there because of the busing system which leads to a crappy student experience compared
To schools with one contiguous campus and then later due to the extreme anti semitism since the 10/7 attacks.
Plus it just doesn’t really matter once you get out of school which school you went to.
Sure, a small set of companies/firms only recruit from the elite schools but after that it just doesn’t matter
My son is at Univ of AL Huntsville studying engineering And he’s learning the same stuff I did at Rutgers engineering even though his school is way lower ranked than RU.
and he’s has more American/english apeaming profs than you will get at RU - most engineering profs at RU barely speak English so good luck with that

Engineering Statics- lambda was "damda", which caused me and my knuckle head friends to laugh like Beavis and Butt-Head every time the Prof said "damda." Nitrogen was Nigh-Trojan in chemistry. First semester was rough and I nearly transferred out. Had friends in EE who said it only got worse. They would never do this now, but back in my day in the Intro to Engineering course, the Ceramic Engineering profs sold the Department on all of the professors speaking clear English. None of this is intended to be xenophobic, and it should not be too much to ask that the professors speak a semblance of clear English.
Not big on school snobbery. Alabama is a huge defense industry, which props up Auburn and Univ of Alabama. Actually for engineering generally, Auburn is ranked 58, Rutgers 68 and Alabama 83. Nothing to brag about for Rutgers when you are ranked in between two Alabama schools.
Plus it must be fun to go to a school that has a winning football team. And those Southern girls . . . .THAT is something to brag about in line at Shop Rite.
We had one kid go for Computer Science at Rutgers, and generally liked it, and another pass on the Honors College and cheap tuition to a "far inferior" college in the minds of some of the snobs here-wanted a smaller, personal college experience, and we were fine with paying an extra $100K over 6 years (BS/MS program). Best decision we made- fantastic experience, personalized instruction, and opportunities and a beautiful campus where you could walk to all classes.
I NEVER understood the whole "out of state" schools when it comes to job placement and bang for your buck. Both my sons got hired by Rutgers Alum in the fields they got their degrees in. Civil Engineering and Finance. One is the site Engineer on a 150 million dollar tunnel project in Monmouth County and the other works for a big firm in NYC. Thank you RU.

No my son goes to Alabama-Huntsville so no football team. There is nothing xenophobic about expecting professors to speak clear English. It doesn’t matter if they are Russian, Chinese, Colombian, or Ethiopian. Just speak English which at RU engineeeing is going to be hard to find
Really? My son lives in Huntsville which has more scientists and engineers per capita than anywhere in the US.
I live in Greenville SC where the people are so much nicer and welcoming than being back in Jersey.

Slightly disagree. I think coming from an "elite" school helps generally in getting that first job. So does coming from a school which has prominent people in the employer you're applying to. But after 1 to 2 years it's "what have you done for the last year or two".
True. The barriers in entry level are easier to overcome with a name college on your resume unless you have the right connections. But like you said, after like 2 to 3 years in the industry, your experience is the part of your resume that sets you apart.
Interesting to see only one G6 on this list, Rice. Everyone else on here is one of a B1G/ACC/SEC school or ND. No Big 12 schools on this list.

RU has the second largest Jewish population of any college in the country. To say there's ANY kind of discrimination on the campus is absolutely looney.

Is pointing out the ranking "snobbery"? Somehow that is snobbery, but the idea of paying more making it better is not?
I'd much rather a Jersey girl than a Southern one, there's many more options at RU with that too..like with pretty much everything...
I’ve worked for 4 fortune 50 companies and I just don’t see what you are saying. Maybe small companies and firms yes but big companies hire people from all types of colleges
I think the parents who think it's impressive to go out of state for lower ranked schools will just get their kids jobs at their own employer, a connection or give them a trust fund so they don't care. The overall most important thing is burnishing how much money you can spend.

RU has by far the largest bus system. None of the 3 schools my kids go to have anything like the RU bus system so you are not informed
And you further have no idea what you are talking about with antisemitism on campus. In fact. Some prominent Jewish student leaders have needed escorts it fit so bad.
Further, Jewish students went to congress to testify about ooor conditions at RU and the president/chancellor was grilled in congress for poor conditions on campus
The fact that RU allows the pro-Palestinian, anti-Semitic camps on campus tells you all you need to know as Jewish students were harassed and intimated near them.

We lived in North Carolina for several years many years ago. On the whole, most people were very pleasant, friendly and welcoming. Like anywhere else, there were some bad eggs, but they are everywhere. Generalizations are rarely correct.
Rutgers signed a consent decree in 2024 due to discrimination on campus.
The bus system can be improved as a Rutgers sophomore described to the Targum last year. This is obvious to every student, just like building the new College Ave quad where shuttered Brower is.
University leaders, including Tate, have shown no sense of urgency implementing these obvious common sense improvements.

Some of you guys really need to venture out and see what life has to offer outside of the Garden State
It's not even a comparison, southern girls, by and large at these SEC schools, are hands down better looking than their northern counterparts at Northern schools

Funny you call me self loathing. I never said the towns are 3rd world. Reading isn’t that great in the south. NJ population is actually growing. Math is also not so good in the south.
