It’s our time to shine - Hawks can and will win this damn game….
They can, sure.

But only if the offense is ready to make the leap to the next level.

We are long past hypotheticals and “they have potential.” Prove it. If you have all these weapons in the TE/WR room, let’s see it. The “RUN THE BALL” mentality is going to grind out a total of 56 yards of offense in the first half if that’s the game plan for today (sorry, not sorry, @eyesofhawk, but college football has changed a little since the days of Woody and Bo—the era you seem to be stuck in). If Iowa does indeed “finally have the horses” to use all of the Kyle Shanahan/Tim Lester playbook, then let’s see it. Scratch where it itches. Pass to set up the run. Prove you have learned from the last however many consecutive road losses against top 25 teams. Prove you have learned from last year’s USC flop by not retreating into an offensive shell after coming out guns blazing.

Until Iowa proves they can string together four quarters of competent offensive football, no one should expect them to go on the road and beat a top 25 team. It’s just not going to happen. Competent offensive football does not mean exotic, stupid, or trying to pantomime Lane Kiffin. It means you have evolved beyond “RUN THE BALL” when an elite defense is stacking the box daring you to throw. It means you go beyond scripting aggressive play calling for the first quarter only to retreat to the most boring flavor of vanilla the other three quarters. It means you view every offensive possession as an opportunity to move the football, control clock, and put points on the board; any possession that is viewed as the time to call plays for the purpose of punting is a losing approach (unless you’re up 30 points in the 4th quarter).

Until Kirk Ferentz proves his team is ready to move past the BAU approach of the last several seasons, I fully expect Michigan to win this game. And by double digits. Prove me and the experts wrong, Kirk. Otherwise, all this preseason hype was exactly that—hype. Prove Tony Diaz’s spectacular spring and summer practices were more meaningful than all the passing records Spencer Petras broke in high school. Prove. It. On. The. Field. Where it actually matters.

Until then…🙄

Oh, but yeah, Go Hawks! 😁

A good mantra. So far this season Iowa has thrown successfully on first downs a good number of times, the routes are getting 5-7-11 yards. It is there but we have to block Mich's crazy fast and athletic DEnd who I cant remember his name right now. A good way to "block" him is to run play action right at him and the running back chip blocks him also and then continues out to the sideline for the quick safety valve pass. If you pass on first down against a loaded box then a high completion percentage is needed and even a 4-5 yard gain is very good.

IIRC, the USC game last year we lost a couple of OLinemen by halftime that did not help. Plus there were a couple of big mistakes inside the redzone with a Wetjen fumble and late game with Wetjen's foot just barely out of bounds. There was potential for 14 more points. Both of those plays were not just power run up the middle.

We can win. But chances are slim. We haven't beat a real ranked team on the road since 2015.
I agree. Haven’t “proved it” in a long time, and we’re still a young team. First road game against a physically tough opponent. So far we’ve beaten arguably one of the worst teams in D1 (NIU), squeeked by a completely rebuilt isu team at home, and beat an FCS team. We are appropriately deemed an underdog in this game for a reason.

I do think the hawks can do it! But it’s likely to be far harder than many are thinking. Counting on underwood to make mistakes and turn it over - while not misplaced - is far from a given. Even if he plays poorly, Hank could do the same. We need to make sure to win the special teams and field position battle in this game more than count on Michigan mistakes imo.
