Is it just me, but are ticket sales lagging?

Yes, the demand is there. Agree. The urge to show up like last weekend, not so much.
True but noon games have always been tough ones. My friends kid is a junior and didn’t get season tickets. He came to the game but said students were still asking for over face value until game day. I think having a larger student pool of tickets will get the kids who really want to go

And lots of students choose to go to PSU because of the excitement of football games and are devastated when they don't get tickets. I do agree that increasing the student ticket alotment seems like a no brainer with sales seemingly lagging elsewhere - the demand is there from the students.
Yep, and your only in college for 4 years maybe 5 or 7 if you are John Blutarski so enjoy the excitement of attending the games. I think every student should be given the opportunity to have season tickets.

I used to attend a lot of away games and that was my strategy. I would book a room 60-90 minutes away from the game site where the prices were much more reasonable and make the drive to the stadium a couple of hours before the game stated. Now, I watch the games on a nice, big HDTV screen.
The NW game would be a cool away game to attend this year with the grand opening of their stadium.

Even though the above post is correct in that many students only buy tickets to sell for profit, I think the school may need to increase the student sections once they see the drop off in season ticket sales. Have to recoup the lost $ somehow, so getting some of it back via students could be a way.
More student tickets would mean more empty seats when you look at this crowd

There are plenty of students who don’t get selected in the lottery that actually want to go to the games. They just don’t wanna pay the ridiculous prices that other students charge for some of these games. If you add 5000 more students, probably at least 80% of them would go to all of the games than the demand for tickets is lower on the secondary market so the prices would be cheaper and therefore I think you get other students going to the game because now the cost is less.

So people are eating tickets at higher prices rather than sell? Doesn’t feel right

Actually, ticket sales should pick up. People can’t look away from a major accident like a derailment.

There are thousands of unsold inventory (not resales) available for Wisky? Hard to believe homecoming isn’t a sellout. Easier to believe when I see PSU is selling nosebleeds for north of $100. Also saw that Wisky returned most of their allotment. Enthusiasm must be down, or perhaps it’s the economy. Either way, we might see swaths of empty seats on Saturday.

The USC game also has unsold seats available, in addition to resales. The dynamic pricing is pretty shocking in its steepness. The university is asking $525 for midfield, 400 level west upper deck seats, and apparently some people are buying them. USC apparently returned some, and those north upper deck nosebleeds are being sold for $350+. There are plenty available a few weeks out for a whiteout, which seems a bit shocking until you see the pricing structure. I am still a bit stunned about them selling west upper deck bleacher seats for $500+. (Again, not resales.)
After the irrational exuberance heading into last year and what transpired I think it's only logical people are taking a more wait and see attitude with the new coaching staff.

Saw this coming a while ago, but it took a little bit longer than I thought. Older fans dying off or just losing interest. Younger fans / alums not replacing them. They did not have the same incredible experience as fans who started in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. The bottom is going to drop out of the fan base. For some it may be financial others the experience and hassle factor. I'm not interested in contributing to the "professionalization" of college football. They killed the golden goose.

PSU is on the hook for a $750 MM stadium renovation when they could have done nothing or downsized. Meanwhile, the competition will spend more and more. If Campbell isn’t the answer, the pressure on Kraft and Neeli will mount quickly. At some point, PSU may be faced with the only choice of selling out completely and hiring a high-profile a$$hole like a kiffen, day, or lanning to turn things around on a dime. To hell with tradition and time for a rebuild.

They need to lower the ticket prices. It's only a small part of the problem, the hotels are probably the worst, but these games aren't worth the price that's printed on the ticket.
Certainly, lower the prices for the higher seats and not just the west side. It'll be good for recent alums as well as the general public. I don't like the notion that if you can't afford it, we don't want you.

I don't think the dwindling attendance is limited to PSU here. I'm seeing a lot of empty seats at college and NFL stadiums this season in particular. With the cost of everything being so high right now, people are deciding it's not worth shelling out hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to go to a football game when you factor in all the costs. Pizza, booze and 4k streaming are a lot cheaper. On top of things, PSU is in a rebuild year with a roster of mostly ISU players.

Moving forward, I truly wonder how PSU is going to manage the stadium debt and the money needed to field a competitive roster. Realistically, you're going to need north of $40M/yr to be competitive in college football. Rutgers is already a mess financially, and there are going to be a lot of hard times for athletic programs in the next 3-5 years.

As I said earlier, attending bowl games was a family tradition. But since then, for example 2024, we simply planned family gatherings. We enjoyed Illinois (White Out) and all three playoff games as I flew to stay with my sons and we enjoyed watching together on TV. Saved lot's of money and got to spend time together and do other things in addition to planning around the "big game."
I know that alcohol has always been and will always be a big part of the game time experience, but does anyone think the sale of alcohol in the stadium itself has negatively impacted the experience?
Fellow sitting right in front of me drank 6-16 ouncers during the game, on top of pre-game consumption- what do you think?

If the top 5 are at $60 this year, which will be $75m next year. $40 m is not going to cut it

We’re looking at going to the Michigan game. I checked on Ticketmaster and saw something interesting.

I’ve never seen so many entire rows available. That would lead me to believe telthat the seats are likely owned by investors or brokers than actual fans.

I wonder if that’s true.

Thoughts?

A large portion of the student section is there primarily to get a Tik-Tok video at the White Out (is Tik-Tok still a venue for 20 year olds? Instagram? Whatever, you get the gist) This ain't your Father's Penn State student body :)

FWIW, PSU ICA has been trying to practically give away unsold tickets to students for the non-white out games - with very few takers.

My Daughter is a Junior and she and her friends are there for the Tailgating and they usually don't stay the whole game when they go in - too bad there is no reentry like the old days and they could hit the tailgates and go back in. I don't blame them, they are college students and looking to have a good time on Saturdays - seems familiar to my time at PSU.

I don't doubt the tone deaf, out of touch morons running the place would try bringing in a slimeball coach who plays the win at any cost game. However, I don't think it sells. If they blew it with Campbell, the ship is unfortunately going to sink quick.

Mystery solved.

I was told it’s because Michigan is partnered with SeatGeek and not Ticketmaster. TM doesn’t display the seat numbers, only the row.

That makes sense to me now. Sucks if you’re buying through TM because you won’t know which side of the section the tix are on.

Michigan still partners w Ticketmaster. I used it myself to get some tix for the PSU/Michigan game in AA.

But, yes, oddly, in areas where an entire row is avauilable - or even "most of a row", it does not tell you which specific seat in that row you are buying.
If there is just one or a couple of seats available in the row, it DOES list the seat number (along with the row and section). So kind of odd.

TTBOMK, the PSU/Ticketmaster site lists specific seat for all tickets - even when an entire row or section is available (at least that was the case every time I used it).
