I don't think it's political to say that many men on this board who have big opinions on the South also really enjoyed looking at a mostly naked male RU alum. I hope he made some NIL off their interest, honestly.

I think it's cheaper to go to Euro or Tokyo Disney at this point. NYT did a whole thing about how much it costs, I went to 3 countries in Asia for 2 weeks and spent less. I don't get it.

I can understand why people move away. It’s expensive and weather is brutal in the winter. I’m not sure you can move back without scaling back your lifestyle if you wanted to. The key for most is make your money and retire elsewhere where your $ can go further.

Traffic and congestion is everywhere. Some of them are worst than Jersey because you don’t expect it.
Well locals complain about traffic here in SC but they have never seen Turnpike, Parkway. Rt 18, Rt 1, Rt 22 traffic
I appreciate the honesty from a lot of the people in this group. If good looking girls are important to your sons when deciding on a college then I respect that it weighs heavy on their choices. Many students pick schools for many reasons.
I'm independent, but I loathe the extremes on both sides, and in NJ, there is a lot to loathe. Just look at the Lt. Gov situation and the forced resignation. Guy had no qualifications to be Lt. Gov, not that the position does anything. And then. . .. and then the announcement on X, the Gov's whole identity revolves around OMB.
That's an overgeneralization. There is a cadre of snooty Northeast folks in this thread who look down on there noses at any school South of Washington, DC. Given the choice of going to school at Clemson, University of North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, University of Tennessee, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, University of Florida or Florida State (among other schools in the South) for the same or less tuition than Rutgers, good enough academic programs, no winter weather and other positives, it's an easy choice to pass on Rutgers.
Some kids/families want smaller schools too. Bu that's not good enough either for the Rutgers
Über alles snobs here who snort at nearly every school being worse than their alma mater. Comical, when in many instances programs at some of these schools are ranked higher than, equal to or only slightly lower than the same program at Rutgers. Guess it makes them feel better in their discussions when on line at Shop Rite or Costco.
I don’t think so. I read multiple posts talking about how good looking the coeds are in the south. I was being serious about appreciating the honesty. Too often when I talk to parents about Billy or Tommy who choose to go to SEC school x they don’t simply admit he was into the girls, football games, frats, etc. BTW, no judgment — I had siblings go to small schools and my kids did not end up at RU.
I’m independent too and also hate both extremes and both parties as both are corrupt and care more about their agenda than what’s best for america
if I had tbe power I’d eliminate both parties and start over

Understood. But there is a cadre of folks in this thread who come across as very snooty and condescending if someone's kid chooses a school other than Rutgers. IMO, there is a little bit of posturing and justifying on both sides of the of the discussion, along with some razzing.
Fact is Rutgers is a fairly ugly campus in comparison to many other Universities. For goodness sake, they can't get a student center and Commons rebuilt after 5 years? Where are the priorities of the people running the place. Maybe that also flowed into the discussion about better looking coeds, which is not a negative for young people, but certainly not the main basis some choose a University.

Yes, and at the risk of getting this thread towed, could list as many or more things from right at this point in time. We can only hope for more centrists to win elections, and people who are not afraid to buck silly positions of their party leaders on specific issued without fear of being labeled an outcast and primaried by their own party. Things have gotten far too tribal.
The only validation we needed from the kid who chose Rutgers and the kid who chose the smaller private school is that they both excelled in their majors, extracurriculars and life after college. And that had less to do with the college they attended and more to do with how we raised them and the adults they became. After their first job, nobody is going to have a care about which school they graduated from. Which makes all of this posturing absolutely ridiculous. But you are right--some parents need to humble brag and feel validated.
Except I’ve gotten into many discussions with people pretty right or pretty left and there in the rught are willing to debate but on the left they just don’t, they start personal attacks, chasing, lashing out - just seems to be a pattern
My experience is same on left but different on right and have almost lost friends on hard right when pointing out the flaws in certain positions or the leader of the party. While the source of the quote is ironic, a famous NJ singer once said, "Blind faith in your leaders or in anything will get you killed." Or maybe another President once said the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” It's only gotten worse and more terrifying in recent times.
Talk to people around Charlotte NC or people in the Dallas area. I’m talking about places where people actually want to travel to.OK, Mister overgeneralization.
Dallas is the South? I suppose. Aktually, I'm very close with someone who move from NJ/Long Island to Dallas, and they could not be happier. Not the self-loathing type either. Immigrant first-generation family from Eastern Europe. They absolutely love the Dallas area, and none of the problems the hoity toity New Jerseyans think exist elsewhere.
Yes, there is traffic in metropolitan areas. One of the worst places we lived for traffic, and it was a lot of years ago, was Cincinnati. Gridlock city.
I know someone who moved to SC and moved back to NJ. Wow, that’s must mean something. Is Charlotte NC the south? How about FL? Is that south enough? Any population center areas have bad traffic. It’s math. Roads were not designed to handle that many cars.

Yes most consider Texas a southern state. Southern doesn’t just mean southeast. Texas is south mid. But nobody considers NM or AZ to be southern states even though they are southwest. So I’d say “southern” doesn’t go past Texas

sure you will find somebody move South then back up north but Sc has has the largest per capita net migration in for 3 years in a row.
Temperate weather, low taxes, friendly people but it’s surely not perfect
