Don’t listen to the IDIOTS. After 4 games, this is a GOOD Football team that is ready to win some games. We are peaking and playing our best football, and will have an opportunity to beat anyone who comes our way.
  • Dylan Lonergan has steadily reduced his turnovers, and did so without reducing his productivity. As long as he continues to get better, and avoid committing turnovers, we’ve got a good chance to beat every remaining team on our schedule

  • USC is better than any remaining opponent, yet a pick6 was our soul difference with them

  • Korey Duff is playing at an All American Level, notching 550 receiving yards in 4 games

  • Antwan Raymond has been playing at an All American Level after the UMass Game. In recent games, he’s shown increasing versatility, catching a number of passes out of the backfield. Clay Thevenin has done solid work as the #2 Back

  • Chris Vigna at Left Tackle and Robert Needham at Left Guard have been a revelation. Needham who struggled at Tackle, has been effective as a Guard, and delivered a number of devastating blocks when he pulled, spurring on the run game. Had this position switch occurred sooner, there is a good likelihood we would have been 3–1. Pass protection has been solid and run blocking has been effective with this new setup.

  • Abram Wright was injured the first two games, and was quietly a productive defender against Howard and U. With Wright and Walker starting against USC, we once again have a LB Corp that can be productive. Allison and Ty Morris have come off the bench and delivered quality reps.

  • Moses Walker is finally having the outsized impact, many of us thought he could have, when he was a highly rated recruit

  • Jessie Ofurie has grown into his role as the stud, and has delivered 16 tackles on the season

  • DBs DK Gilley and Chris Joines are getting better each and every game. This year was their first significant action, and like with most kids, they went through a learning curve

  • Bradlee Jones might be our best portal get. Consistently productive, and seems to have a nose for the football, notching two interceptions against Howard

  • If Bradlee Jones wasn’t our best portal get, then the nod has to go to Sekou Kromah, who has been solid throughout the first four games.

  • S Kaj Sanders has been our best overall defender when he’s played. He was dearly missed during our first two games. He was injured during the Howard Game. Hope he plays against Indiana. I’ll be looking forward to the injury report.
After four games, the talent is finally coalescing into an effective fighting force. It’s one game game, one chop at a time for us. Love our chances against all remaining comers. Korey Duff and Antwan Raymond and the much improved offensive line give us a chance.

It begins with Indiana. For some reason, we’ve had their number in recent years, though we thankfully didn’t play them the last two years.

Blackout Game, Homecoming, 8pm start, a full day of drinking, a full stadium. You couldn’t ask for better conditions.

Time to make it happen!

I agree that Rutgers looked remarkably better in the game against USC. BUT, the Howard game should not be looked at as a turnaround. It's the strength or weakness of the opposing team that makes you look good or bad. The Howard game went as it should and was not a big accomplishment. We'll see going forward against better teams. More mistakes and poor play decisions will happen against better competition. I'd like to think Rutgers will turn it around, as I do each and every year, but 50 years of watching has tempered my expectations.

The Howard game should be looked at as an opportunity where we got quality reps against a bad opponent. I think we finally have the optimal personnel out there, especially on the offensive line, which has seen the biggest improvement in recent games. Mistakes are the nature of the game. The biggest thing is the quarterback has to limit his turnovers. He does that, and we can beat every remaining opponent. The USC game showed we can play with everyone.

USC is trash! They got blown out at home to a back up QB. They will loose 4 games minimum and won’t be ranked. The only reason they were ranked was for TV programming ratings and Lincoln Riley’s name.

Greg is a disaster and wiill coach his last game this week.

I am convinced that the team we saw the last two games is a decent football team. If the season has started week three, we probably would be predicting 7-8 wins but that isn’t how it works.

The point that is lost on you and some other others is that competing in athletic events is not the same as winning. From what I’ve seen the last two games I do think this team is good enough to compete in possibly every game left on the schedule barring major injuries, even IU if they game planned over a 2 week period and come on fired up and healthy.

However, there is a cavernous gap between competing and winning and until he shows he can win against solid teams, we are likely to walk away from the season with 4-5 more ‘moral victories’ and you still talking about a Fieldhouse instead of understanding the nature of athletics and how there is skill and nuance in terms of winning games instead of just competing in them.

No, lol! Lonergan had 5 INTs ALL season last year and threw 3 against a 2-3 million dollar roster in UMass and 4 more vs USC.

THAT is a function of our coaching staff, NOT NIL or not having a field house. Lonergan arguably one year older is performing worse under our coaching staff than the last year.

They aren’t and anybody who knew what they were watching could see that from watching that game, but this entire point works against you.

JH took a 2-3 million dollar roster, developed over only 1-2 transfer portal cycles (mostly the last 1) and put a team on the field who emasculated a 20 million dollar Big Ten roster with a very expensive coaching staff on the road in year 7 and it does not appear to be a ‘one off’ weird upset, Umass looks legitimately decent. This is the entire point that so many have been trying to explain to you for years….NIL is only a component that goes into results. Is there a UmassAl complaining that they don’t have enough money to beat a team like Rutgers?

EVERYBODY else pulls upsets. We never do. Never.

And good coaching will get more out of your talent. JH brought in 55 transfers the last cycle and it appears he knew exactly what he wanted and got it even at bargain bin prices.

Our defense is horrendous. Full stop.

Our offense was horribly unprepared for UMass.

Injuries are a part of the game. Lonergan would’ve beaten his former BC team. He’s not great but their D wasn’t good either. UMass is better than them. And our OL held up against Bc where it failed the week prior.

Regardless - Greg has miles to go to make up for the start to the season. It’s highly unlikely.

No, lol! Lonergan had 5 INTs ALL season last year and threw 3 against a 2-3 million dollar roster in UMass and 4 more vs USC.

What you need to understand is that NIL is a key determinant of talent level. The Fieldhouse would have helped attract the best talent, which is leaving NJ in droves, because Rutgers Football’s value proposition isn’t strong enough.

We were developing talent on the fly because we don’t have enough experienced, talented players. Give us Miami’s NIL budget, and we’re easily 4-0. Because we would have paid for a better quarterback and better defensive lineman. That’s why a team like Miami really doesn’t have any holes in their roster. Because they had enough NIL to fill them in. Now our talent is ready to go, because of the lumps we’ve taken the first four games.

Because of our constraints, the pass rush is pretty much nonexistent, making it more difficult for the back 7 to do their jobs. They struggled over the first two games because they were acclimating to this level of play. They were exponentially better against USC and Howard. #4 just got beat by a better player when we faced USC. There haven’t been the coverage breakdowns we’ve observed in the past. The kids are doing a much better job at understanding their assignments and properly filling in gaps.

The defense played well enough to win, against USC, full stop. That should be good enough to win vs everyone else, full stop. Dylan Lonergan’s play will more likely determine the outcomes of remaining games, than the defense. The defense isn’t going to be good, but it’s good enough to.

Nothing but nonsense. COACHING MATTERS. Our coaching staff stinks. Greg is still living in the 2000's (at which time he was living in the 80's) and simply refuses to change.

Yup. Al's a nice guy and a great fan. I defended Al and his nonsense for 20+ years. No more and here's why:

He is 100% convinced that Greg would've won a natty with IU's roster last season (not a chance...maybe - MAYBE - gets to the playoffs but loses in the 1st round) and that Cignetti would be 1-3 with our current roster (he'd be and "easy" 3-1 quite possibly 4-0).

...in other words, he's beyond delusional and - along with a few others around here yourself included (no offense...) - simply can't stop licking Greg's nuts no matter how bad things are right now. Now you know I loved Greg during 1.0 - even when he faltered big-time a few seasons post-06 - but it's over. It's time to move on, forward and upward, and that's not gonna happen with him at the helm.

UMASS OWNED US....but it's okay!!!! We lost to a HORRIBLE BC team....but it's okay!!! We whipped a HORRIBLE FCS team....WATCH OUT PLAYOFFS HERE WE COME!!!!

Kaj sanders best defender?!?!? Show your work. What proof is there that’s he’s our best defender? He’s consistently out of position and beaten for big yards. And when he does give up big yardage he magically comes down with egoitis and waits for medical help.
