That is certainly one way to go.I'm not sure paying $20M to get rid of him and roll the dice on another guy makes a lot of sense at this point either. The data says SC football is going to be around .500 regardless of who the coach is. Who is out there, that would have any interest in the SC job, that would make any sort of real change?
Beamer's generous contract runs through 2030. Give him another year or two before seriously considering firing him. Don't give him any raises or extensions and the buyout gets manageable. Another couple mediocre years isn't going to make or break gamecock football.
Don't forget, he really wants to be here.

At this point, 6-6 and a bowl win I'd be happy with it. Even 5-7 if he benched DS and Lenorris and we chalk it up to rebuilding. If he pulls off a miracle and gets us to 6 wins, it probably doesn't make sense to fire him. You can't pay $20 million + to fire a coach who performed at the historical norm for the program.
6 wins and he is safe, 7 and the fans will be giddy because that means there were a couple of upsets. He’s fired at 6 wins even 7, but let’s not kid ourselves. Thats a slim chance. Playoffs have increased the likelihood of a team like SC getting some relevance. Something we didn’t have back in the Spurrier days. With the meaningless bowl games now, fans want more than 6 wins, regardless of the historical precedent. We are in the SEC, with good resources, and more wins will get us more resources.
Also pointless to fire him. Spend a bunch of money on buyouts and new contracts just to suck anyway?......he won't get it done here and we all know that. The facts are the facts. I like the guy but you know where the nice guys always finish.
With how the season looks right now, we would throw a parade for a 7-win season.6 wins and he is safe, 7 and the fans will be giddy because that means there were a couple of upsets.
Expanding the playoffs means SC can watch the second tier SEC teams like Tennessee, UF and aTm get in the playoff. 4 and 5 loss teams aren't getting in the playoff.
I think things are going to be better than a lot of people do. I see wins against UK, OU, aTm and Arkansas to get to 6 wins. Clemson is going to determine whether the season is "acceptable" or "good" in the minds of the fans. Either way, Beamer is back next season. With how the season looks right now, we would throw a parade for a 7-win season.

Sadly, that has been sort of the recipe for our football success for a long time. It's unfortunate, though, that we are in the position of needed other teams to suck in order to pick up wins.
IMHO, if Briles is struggling it's either because of interference from Beamer OR his recruits are not a good fit for this offense.Firing Beamer is pretty much pointless if he's recruiting well and the donors and fans are still largely onboard.
In fact, it would probably be a step backwards b/c of the financials.
Assistant coaches should be the focal point of on-the-field coaching and overall performance.
