Not surprising. The lineup he’s putting out isn’t the best possible lineup. Our serving is way too easy and we serve to dumb locations. On the other side of the net there is a better coach and willing to make changes when needed.

omg, save 6 set points, have a free ball at 24-22 and we run into each other to let it drop.

Oh my goodness had a free ball to get our 7th point in a row and cut the set to 24-23 and we had 2 women run into each other. That hurts. Maybe we've successfully offbalanced GT a bit?

we were up 17-16 in the 3rd after a run and then got blocked 6 times to get swept and absolutely dominated.

Happy Mike made the change and went to Addie West for Pearce. She played really well and her serve receive was good even though she was being targeted. She took some really confident swings, too. Safi's serve today was a difference maker and we needed it. Safi and Chelsea were insane today. Amazing fight today.

What a gutsy performance. Coach Schall’s ability to retain talent is paying off.
As someone just stated Addison West has to play more. No butts about it. Mike is going to have to get off his high horse of being loyal and play this young lady if he wants to win games. He is kind of being like Dabo at Clemson in football, set in his ways. As I started before this young women is a Gatorade Player of the year. Play her. It is kind of funny that Mike did not have any problems playing Mabrey Shaffmaster as a freshman. Was Mabrey a Gatorade Player out of Indiana? Addison IMO is on the same level as Mabrey when she was a freshman. Mike will have to just let her play. Someone needs to mentioned this fact to him. That was a great come back today. I am glad that he replace Pierce was Addison. Go Heels!

I checked the score as we lost 2nd set, then was busy until the match already ended. Pretty surprised to see the 3-2 win, then shocked to find out they were down 24-20 in the 3rd. Wild. Major props to the team. Important win, really needed this one as a gettable quality win.

One of the craziest comebacks in UNC volleyball history. Hats off to them for playing through it and not making even a single mistake with their backs against the wall in the 3rd. To go from being within 1 point of being swept in 3 sets to winning in 5 is insane.

Hopefully this momentum can sustain them as we continue to move on with the season.

Fought off 6 match points in set 3, including having the game winner overturned after the loss was announced thanks to a heady net touch review requested by UNC. Insane. 40f those match points were in a row When we were down 20-24.

I could not imagine a more improbable come back.

And this come back would not have happened if not for matches like Kentucky and Nebraska.

Heads up play by Thorpe at 24-23 to pop the ball back up when it came back to her after being blocked. I was soooo thankful it didnt touch her twice.

Safi is looking more like herself and led us in kills, but Thorpe and Berhendt (who I have crticized recently) pulled us to this win, although everyone contributed.

The Schutter shoulder shrug in the 5th had be rolling LOL

I worry that you could take the glass half empty stance and say we escaped a bad loss at Wake by the skin of our teeth. And it took somewhat of a miracle to pick up a quality win we needed to get (good but not too good opponent at home). But from some of the comments of more knowledgable folks it feels like there has been some good player development recently.

Wake really is not a bad team. When you look at their roster, they are loaded with height and athleticism. They have a poor record becuase they had so many preseason injuries. The Wake we got was a Wake that was reintegrating some of those people who had been out. I think Malone going down also had everyone mentally distracted.

There has def been a reawakening of terminal Safi and the defense has gotten way better with JB as libero and Markham as DS.

We still need to work on our first and second touches. But I am encouraged about progress. Unfortunately, our RPI is going to take a hit playing the Virginia teams this weekend, and you never count out a Shannon Wells UVA, but those games should help us work on things because the schedule is about to start getting heavier next week.

I agree. Mike needs to let her showcase her skills. I am glad he did that today. Great win. Go Heels!

And that RPI can be even higher if we snag one "we are not supposed to."

Good:
Thorpe and Smith are so good on the RS. they have become good OOS options as well. Not many teams can say that about the RS.
JB is a baller. She does a good job keeping plays alive in transition and reads tips better than defenders in the past.
SR and serving look better as of recently.
Middles are playing better on both sides of the ball.

Bad:
OH Depth: Pearce is most likely done for the year IMO. West is a good player and oozes potential but I wonder if she can be terminal against UL until we get Bridget back. If Safi or her go down, Curtis is the only OH we have left unless we go to a 5-1. Lets hope not...

We have a HUGE weekend ahead on the road. Cant overlook ND that desp needs a big win and UL is undefeated in ACC and at home.

We kind of got unlucky with the schedule (though maybe good for rpi)
We play SMU, Pitt, Louisville 4 times and 3 are on the road. Getting into top 16 and host will come down to
1. Sweeping Cal/stanford at home
2. Sweeping FSU/Miami at home
3. Taking care of the easies, BC, Cuse, ND, dook x2.
4. Winning 1 of those 4 games above and at miami

This years schedule is actually more balanced thatn last year....last year we had Louisville, SMU, Pitt, Stanford all in a row if I recall. this year, the office put BC/SYR in the middle of that and moved SMU/Pitt to later.
