You are right. I am happy about this recruit, but between the nonexistent 26 class and a 27 class that needs help, we still need a heck of a lot - another upper level wr, a qb, another edge just to start. We are in danger of losing Betton so probably another lb. Total rebuild. We’ll get there.
The kid could be the next Barkley, but it's just another case of filling a spot that is open because the top choice went elsewhere. At some point, WR, RB and QB etc. need to be elite prospects.

1) RBs are rather "cheap" (Aside from the top few, they are like buses, there is always another one coming around the corner)

2) No one is even stretching their budget for a RB who is not rated highly by anyone, and whose displayed skills are not close to anything special.
(To be honest, if this kid flipped to another school - I doubt he will - PSU fans would take about 2 seconds to give him the WIll Wood treatment. Probably rightly so)

3) In the meantime, he is a second RB recruit for 2027 that - assuming they both sign - will provide some depth to a thin position. Allowing PSU to avoid paying "portal money" to fill out the 2027 RB roster. So that's all good. (In a year where they will likely have to find $$ to sign at least 30 - maybe 40? - portal guys just to fill out the roster)
Agree with virtually everything you say. However, there isn't an above average Big Ten running back on the roster. Do we really trust this sort of signing will move the needle? If you study Ohio State recruiting, they spend for talent where roster needs exist. They have a 5 star and 2 4 star edge rushers in this class.
They have a 5 star WR. They will pay the going rate. They will fill out the "bottom" of their recruiting class with players at positions in which they don't have a critical need. These are low cost, and perhaps undervalued or underrated. If one hits, great. If not, they recruit over him in the next cycle or portal.
PSU is missing the elite talent and shopping the low cost underrated.

Get him on campus in January and maybe he can contribute in '27.
Rb is a position that can contribute right away, even without a spring. I think we have something good with the Odoh and Hall combo. Hope they are the next Allen Singleton freshman combo.

He was one of the few on here that supported PSU the past few years, but since he’s not on the Franklin hate train, he’s suddenly taking shots at PSU. So shots at Franklin were okay, but shots at Campbell are shots at PSU, interesting.
Wait...since when does "supporting Penn State" mean supporting Franklin when change was needed?

Hopefully, this Hall kid will help us get the runs from Day One. Open the floodgates and let it flow.

I render my opinion. I'm not here to kiss babies and make friends. Fact is, PSU fans have long been entitled and delusional. I"m on record as stating that the best thing about this team is the schedule. Was I wrong?
Now. I see no reason this team cannot win at least 4 of the final games. Can the Cylions get off the Matt and beat mighty Purdue, Rutgers and Maryland? Split with Washington and Minnesota? If not it's worse than I thought. Some here are reduced to getting giddy about a commitment from a running back that is rated 60-70th in the country. Insisting that he's underrated. Like we haven't heard that about every 3 star this staff received a commitment from. So, he's underrated. Does that make him #40? How far the mighty have fallen.
Hey man.....sorry for your loss. Please know, I've been in a dark place in my life too and I get it. Take this advice anyway you wish. You have to go through the motions to move towards the light. Even if it hurts.

Appreciate your expression of sympathy. For me, it's been a long time. Going through the motions is precisely the way to describe life without the person that you wrapped your life around.
My condolences to you as well. That being said, contrary to the attempts at some intellectually challenged individuals who take differences of opinion personal ;) :ROFLMAO: my opinions have nothing to do with my age or marital status. I have no problem with moving on from Franklin, under the following conditions:
-It's foolish to fail to acknowledge what the conditions were when he arrived here
-what he does or doesn't achieve at VT has no connection to what he may or may not have accomplished at psu
- not all change is for the better
-my disassociation has more to do with a confluence of events...24 refugees from ISU and others and my inability to identify this as a PSU team
-the despicable way Frankln's family was treated at Beaver, which destroyed my perception of the program and fanbase that I once thought was "the best."
-I initially thought Matt Campbell was a good choice and hoped everyone could move on (PSU win 9 or 10 games with a weak schedule and Franklin doing, well pretty much what he is doing) the constant discrediting of his rather good results here combined with the fact that anyone with eyes has to be doubting Campbell's pedigree as any kind of upgrade....
In summation, it's my honest opinion that even if PSU wins 4 more games, we are in trouble.

I will just point out that most every school in CF is unidentifiable to its fans from one year to the next because of the transfer portal.

Agree 100%. But the past year has brought "the war home." I liked following players from commit to field. I made peace with plugging the holes and enjoyed the "hunt" in the portal for the potential "difference maker." Because the simple coaching change was mismanaged into a rebuild, I have trouble bleeding for a player, that for instance, will be here a few months and takes one course online....and collects a cool million plus. Because PSU dumpster dived into the portal, they will be condemned to continue for at least another year or two. Until they can afford back to back top 10-15 classes, what is the alternative? While you are completely correct that it's more about the current system, It doesn't mean I have to like it.
I fear the only thing that will rescue PSU football is some sort of legislation.

Wait...since when does "supporting Penn State" mean supporting Franklin when change was needed?
How’s that change working for you? The problem wasn’t Franklin. The problem was lack of support if you wanted to be like Ohio State, Georgia, Texas, or Alabama year after year. If you wanted a team that recruited scholars athletes who went to class, didn’t cheat, was competitive, and made you proud you must have liked JoePa. And James Franklin.

If Franklin would have gotten him you'd be talking about how great it is to steal someone from Ohio that Ohio State was showing interest in
Like every recruit, he may be great--he may do nothing--no one ever knows with any player
No one thought Wood was "the bomb"--he was always depth
Many people on here proclaimed that Wood was the answer after Bourque who was the initial target committed elsewhere.
Wait...since when does "supporting Penn State" mean supporting Franklin when change was needed?

The problem was Franklin...be got everything he wanted last year and failed miserably because he was unwilling yo adapt to the talent around doing.
More talk about "doing things the right way" and pretending that was reality.

Who? Many people? We barely get a handful of people that discuss recruits because we all know a verbal is meaningless...or should. Just means you currently lead and they're saving a spot.

Not everyone agrees change was needed….people are allowed to have a different opinion. Many people felt Joe stayed too long and many disagree, but they all still supported Penn State.

So you are opposed to the truth. No surprise there since you live in a fantasy world. No excuse for his behavior but you idol worshipers carry on.
Take a LONG look in the mirror. Just the latest example of you getting your jollies off criticizing those with whom you disagree.

It's not supporting Penn State when you then constantly attack the new regime
Paterno clearly needed to go long before he did. Franklin left exactly when he should have. Loyalty to a coach is the only reason anyone would disagree.
MC is facing the same nonsense, on a smaller level, that O'Brien did replacing Joe.

Yeah, he's lonely and angry about life after losing his wife. He takes out his anger by being an obnoxious, negative know-it-all and taking constant shots at PSU past, present, and future.
He’s one of the more fair and eloquent posters in general, not to mention informed. I think he and I are just frustrated that our favorite program is going in the wrong direction. I’m mad at fans who think it was wise to move away from Franklin-it concerns me that men would be ok firing someone with that history who did so much for the school and program. If any of you were fired like Franklin it would be an abomination. It makes me think Penn State’s fans care more about winning than respect and loyalty.

If you had Franklin’s success as a football coach or in ANY profession and your company fired you the way PSU did, you would be livid. Wouldn’t you? Or would you think you “deserved” to be fired?

Franklin is a terd. There's no comparing the ACC to the B10. BGJ is a terd coach, of a terd team, in a terd conference.

It’s not loyalty to a coach, it’s being okay with where the program has been for the past 12 years…you have a really bad habit of thinking for other people.

I hate to post it, but in this age of college football winning vs. respect and loyalty seem to be mutually exclusive.....unfortunately.
