Keli gives him two choices—
She can fire him and his three kids and he gets the full amount owed on his contract ($18 million?)
OR
He announces his retirement now effective at the end of the season. He gets half of the money (roughly $9 million), BUT a new coach is hired with the stipulation Schianos three kids are
technically still on staff at their same salary for one extra year. Behind the scenes, the new coach can assign them any role he wants. Schianos kids can put down another year on a Big Ten staff on their resumes and the new coach can keep all, some, or none of them after one year.

Schiano has friends at schools all over the place. His kids could be on Belichick's staff tomorrow if he asked. They aren't going to have a hard time getting jobs.

No The Grifter would not announce retirement for a reduced buyout because he’s a grifter. Simple as that.

And keeping his valueless kids around would be unneeded PR baggage for a new coach.

The Schiano boys can be clipboard carrying assistants at Ramapo High for all anyone should care. The gravy train ride needs to end yesterday for all of them.

Greg probably knows this is his last HC job and a P-4 or NFL DC position probably will be hard to come by.
His DC reputation took a slight hit in his last year at Ohio State as their DC the way the Buckeye D played under him .
He'll leave wanting all the money owed and will try to find spots for his sons using the football connections he made over the years, but he won't take less just to have them stay at Rutgers.

No offense, but this has to be the stupidest idea ever posed. A bribe to stay on a new coach pay roll is not helpful to his kids’ prospects on finding other jobs - it just makes them look desperate. And even if it theoretically could help a little, he’s not passing up $9m of family wealth to be passed down to them eventually anyway for that. Nor should he. Nobody would. You can blame him for a lot of things but nobody in his position would turn down the money he is owed on his contract. Unfortunately it’s Rutgers problem.

And no coach worth his salt would take a job knowing he has to hire the old coaches 3 kids. Silly post by OP

Yeah that too. Although I guess if they just had to be on payroll that wouldn’t matter. It’s the 9m that makes this a ridiculous discussion. That’s a lifetime of generational revenue. Nobody would turn it down.

I said stupidest “idea” not stupidest post.

Al posts ridiculous, false narratives. He doesn’t post ideas - in fact he has no ideas and that’s one of the many frustrating things about his posts. He talks about how we have no money, and that’s our problem - yet no ideas on when the money could come from.

One and the same. His idea to post and the football ideas are outlandish.

My point was this proposed “solution” is 1000% non-viable and a waste of time discussing. When you decide to move on from a coach, the outstanding contract is always a sunk cost and the performance of the team is irrelevant. There’s no point whatsoever discussing ridiculous alternatives that would never appeal to Greg in a zillion years. Of course he’s collecting his $9M. There’s nothing to talk about in this regard. Unless someone can cook up a scandal to pin on him to fire for cause but that’s very doubtful. Greg is too careful with stuff like that.

It’s $18m over the next three years actually.

Asking Schiano to take less would never work. The only other option, and it’s a long shot, is starving his program. Tell him you don’t believe in him anymore and there will be significant cuts to his rev share and NIL, along with major cuts to his support staff.

Or he can negotiate an acceptable buy out.

Why is it so hard for some to understand?

The buyout was negotiated when the contract was made.
If Schiano wanted his sons retained and $9 mil in the event of his termination, it would be in the contract under Severance.

If he wanted only $2 mil and free trips to Disneyland for life, that would have been in the contract.

No one is disputing the contract. Buy outs often get negotiated after the fact. Usually not successfully but it’s worth a try.

That would be a bad look for Rutgers for hiring the next coach. We're not LSU. We can't burn people and expect it not to backfire on us. Also would doubt Zinn and Tate would want that reputation.

Greg is likely out season's end. He will get the full buyout. If we can't afford to pay him the full buyout he will be back. That simple.

It would be a worse look for Greg residing over a 0 win season.
