I agree with the second lineup. To me it really comes down to matchups on who we'll see on the floor.
In the scrimmage with Texas Tech and the upcoming one with Saint Louis we're struggling with guard heavy teams as we are more forward/big heavy at the moment. If we can get better defending quickness with our size we may stay with a bigger line-up but my feeling is we may have to play smaller.
Right now, I'd go:
McKeever
Koch
Sage
Howard
Combs
off the bench
Manyawu
Jirak
Thompson/Coon
Harris
Coleman
But as we get to BigTen play and teams with more traditional C/PF parings, then we may see the bigger lineup.
McKeever
Manyawu
Koch
Sage
Combs
off the bench
Jirak
Thompson
Harris/Coon
Howard
Coleman
apparently Ben agrees with my 1st line-upI agree with the second lineup.
I think you just summed up the issue that will determine how far this team can go.To me it really comes down to matchups on who we'll see on the floor.

Your proposed starting lineup could be correct? However, I’m just wondering if Manyawu’s role may be a bit more limited this season compared to last season? Particularly, if Iowa is looking for more offense in certain situations.Combs
Sage
Koch
Manyawu
McKeever
6th man will likely be Howard because of all of the off season buzz, with Jirak and Coleman behind him. Really interested in what Ben does with the Thompson, Harris, and Coon trio. All guys with major upsides.
I don’t think Iowa spent the big $ on McKeever to have him not start.Things we know about McCollum’s lineup choices, based on last year:
Based on this, I predict this lineup, at least early in the season:
- He prioritizes defense
- He favors guys who know his system and he trusts
- He’s not afraid to keep hyped transfers on the bench
Combs
Howard
Sage
Koch
Manyawu
Maybe, but Alvaro Folguerias says hello.I don’t think Iowa spent the big $ on McKeever to have him not start.![]()
I like Cam at the 4Other than loyalty, Cam should not start with McKeever on the team. He's not a 4, he's a 5 in a 4's body, IMHO
Every guy on the roster brings something positive . . . all the way down to Matteoni and Ben's son. There aren't enough minutes to go around. Ben could sub in waves, like in hockey, depending on matchups. If Iowa stays healthy, distributing the minutes may be Ben's greatest challenge this season.Combs

You think Sage won’t start? He might be our best player.I am taking a few days off football and turning my attention to Iowa Men' elite basketball team. I played golf with Tyler Elsbury at Brown Deer course in Coralville on September 17. He is the starting center for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Canada. https://bluebombers.com/roster/. He is a real nice guy and can hit the ball over 250 yards. Well I will go to the Iowa men's basketball game tomorrow at the (Xtream Arena) Coralville. I tried to get them to play in my driveway but no go. My starting lineup is not my idea but I agree with it ---

I would be shocked if Sage doesn't startYou think Sage won’t start? He might be our best player.
I also think it’ll be tough to have Cam and McKeever play extended minutes together. Neither have the ability to provide spacing.I would be shocked if Sage doesn't start
I did read somewhere that Cam worked hsrd on his perimeter game this summer. A 15 foot jumper would be a hige improvement, but not counting on it.I also think it’ll be tough to have Cam and McKeever play extended minutes together. Neither have the ability to provide spacing.
