Senior World OGA’s (Old Guy Awards)
--Best Showing by Female Teen: Everest Leydecker, her opponent’s draw of death
--Most Perfect Name for Reaching Pinnacle of a Sport: Everest
--Best Showing by Male Teen: Marcus Blaze, a whizzer away but a Bronze in the pocket
--Best Resurrection from Clinging One-handed Off a Cliff: Bo Bassett, a point from oblivion, winning 14-13, then two more for Gold, the last, a bear mauling
--Methuselah Award for Excellence and Longevity: Kyle Dake, USA freestyle’s Obi-wan
--Best Highwire Act: Kyle Snyder, winning QF and Final on criteria
--Youngest Ever 79kg Senior Worlds Champion: Levi Haines, the hunter, barely 22
--Toughest Split Loyalty Bout: Spencer/RBY
--Long and Winding Road to Senior Gold Award: Spencer Lee
--Throwback to Catty, Subjective Gymnastic/Skating Judges: Trent’s stolen gold
--Worst Sportsmanship: Morgan Turner, Corbster’s innocent angel is the sport’s cornea scraper
Last one is more of an OGR (Old Guy Rant)
--Worst Application of Rule: Passivity clock should only be an observed punishment and never ascribed to non-passive wrestler just because other guy got dinged. At world level, 0-0 after a certain time doesn’t prove passivity, just elite defense. If worried about improbable 0-0 final scores, implement a Guillotine Option, where wrestler knows a coin flip decides a scoreless bout. Having a championship dream instantly severed by a chance flip makes the entire six minutes a passivity clock.
Now, about this upcoming NCAA season featuring a Bassett and maybe an Ono . . .
