First, is the just the buying of players. Part of being a successful coach has always been recruiting. That ability to sell your program to a player. Now you just go out and buy the pieces you want.
Second, I don't know if we picked up any players of consequence. We were buying players for whom nobody else was really shopping.
That's my point as well. What players are we bidding on? The best fit for the need? The ones we can afford from the real offerings that fit? Or the leftovers?
Or, we're now spending so much that we can buy players of consequence as the highest bidder?

You would have to think at some point reason will prevail and fans will see the foolishness of it all, but most likely they will double down and give more money. The schools will obviously say the only thing holding them back from greater success is more donations.

95% (maybe much closer to 99%) of the portal players were signed by the highest bidders. That applies to SC State,, Clemson and probably every team in the SEC. That’s the end game of most of the players in the portal so that shouldn’t be surprising. However, as some have asked, are we bidding on the right players?
My thoughts exactly. Paying too much for average used cars ain't considered commendable and paying too much for used ballplayers ain't very swuft, either.
Has the same ring to it as a salesman bragging about being the low bid on every deal he won.
