Huff will probably have a chance to be the HC at his 4th school in 4 years. That’s got to be a first.

Will say what I keep saying in all the threads about Huff or coaching. The man can coach, and we could do a lot worse. Be honest with yourself when you think about this question. Who is a better coach right now, Huff or Lebby?

I still haven't forgiven Huff for going all-in on 5 star John Emery from Destrehan, LA (#11 overall recruit in the country) without any semblance of a back-up plan in the class of 2019 recruiting cycle. Anyone that has followed recruiting for years knew that kid was eventually picking LSU. Huff & the rock-kicker/sand-pounder let Emery play his games with us & end up with JUCO Kareem Walker that never played a meaningful snap at MSU while Huff bails for Bama with Saban.

This is basically all accurate, with one caveat... he was recruiting Jerrion Ealy hard too at the same time. I believe he thought he had Emery (he probably ignorantly discounted the LSU factor), but he did have a backup plan. It just didn't pan out because they were absolutely not going to let us pull a Prep guy they wanted no matter how much cash/hookers/blow it took. I'm sure that's a lesson he still carries with him today.

Dude won 10 games at Marshall, took Southern Miss from 1-11 to 7-5 in 1 year, and just staked a claim as an early leader in the G5 playoff race. We could do a lot worse than Charles Huff.
I can't disagree, but it is something about him that I don't really care for, not saying I would be mad IF he was our HC. Maybe it's how he handled his dismissal at Marshall and how he left Msu to go to Bama and started recruiting a few players on our team to go with him.
He can definitely coach.

There is some basis in truth in your comments, but Jerrion Ealy was not going to be anybody's back-up plan & there was a significant risk of Ealy playing baseball out of high school.

I watched an interview with Huff on I think Wake UP Barstool. Portnoy really challenged Huff on his recruiting style of preaching toughness and not so much fluff. If players come here, they will be coached hard kind of thingy. Huff answered it him very well without throwing shade at other techniques. Huff said that there were lots of ways to recruit, he did it his way and it works. If you need proof, look at his track record in recruiting.

BFW fell in love with him and he could not hide it in that interview.

When did we all get so 17ing content with mediocre? “We could do worse” is as much a msu comment. We could do a lot better. And we should expect that. Too much money floating around and donated to not demand better.

We deserve much more than what we’re being given

Is the glass half full or half empty?
We could do worse = we’re looking at the top.
we could do better = we’re looking at the bottom.

It's been one win for Huff and Memphis. One.

Every year, Memphis finds a way to lose to some inexplicable G5 game or two. I won't be surprised if Boise and/or Navy beats them.

As kickoff draws near I hope Lebby finds a way to 7.

Huff is as openly upwardly mobile as any coach out there. I think he absolutely would jump to the next open P4 job next season, including MSU or OM. But, he would do to us again what he’s done to everyone else he’s ever worked for and stay until the next best off comes along. The only reason he hasn’t done it to Memphis is he’s only coached one game there.

We're not doing better now. That's the whole point.

If you're mad about that then you can't want Mullen here. Huff saw the writing on the wall with Moorhead.

I may end up being completely wrong, but I suspect he’s not a guy who can build a program and sustain it.

Time will tell.

So he can only go from terrible to good? He can’t go from good to just as good?

Southern wasn’t good last year. They were just improved over a historically terrible team the year before. They didn’t beat anybody inside the Top 90 and they lost games to teams that bad.

He did some good things at Marshall, but the way that ended may be a legitimate cause for concern.

He may well be a great HC ready to take over a P4 program. I just have my doubts and he wouldn’t be high on my list if we end up in the HC market soon.

If we fire Lebby and hire another coach, it needs to be a slam dunk. There's no way we need another 4-year experiment, only to do the same thing all over again.
Whom do we hire if that actually played out? He'd need to have the same offense as Lebs, and like Arnett enough to keep him as DC. There aren't many of those guys just laying around. Keeping Lebs sounds more and more likely regardless of 6+ wins.

Yeah, but what is the glass half full of? Sometimes at MSU, I feel like it's half full of horse piss.
