Why would anyone think South Carolina is a premier college football program?
Me, too, Freddie. I was at most of the 84’ games. All the home. Watched the Clemson game on closed circuit at the colosseum. Will always remain my favorite year.
Because it is. Carolina has one of the best football programs a high school player or transfer could choose. Elite facilities, stadium, and coaching. Yearly NFL draft production and SEC competition. Looking at the talent composite, they’re sandwiched between Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Clemson, and Oklahoma. All of those programs have a recent playoff appearance. They’re also ahead of Auburn, Florida State, Washington, Penn State, and Texas Tech. This isn’t the year 2000 anymore.
Other than the specific level highschool recruiting (the origin of the talent composite), I dont really see anything listed here that cant be said about a LOT of other schools that arent "premier". And calling things like the coaching, stadium and facilities "elite" seems like a real reach.
I’m looking at the FBS as a whole. I’m not comparing to the 5-10 absolute blue bloods of college football. Carolina checks off a lot of boxes and is top 15 in most areas you would evaluate a football program imo.
I think Beamer needs to win 8 games to be safe. I think if he goes 7-5, it depends which 7 he wins. 6 wins or less, i think he's terminated.
I do think we should win 8 or 9 this year. I think we have better talent than: Kent State, Towson, UK, Miss State, Florida, Arkansas, & Clemson. I think we could potentially get an upset or two against Alabama, Tennessee, TAMU or Oklahoma. I think we get killed by Georgia.
I could also see us go 3-9 and the wheels just fall off. Who knows...

Okay. I just look at facilities, stadium, coaching, guys in NFL, etc, and Im not sure we're top 15 in any of them.
Probably just semantics with the use of the word "premier". Is that top 5, top 10, 15 etc?

Well, I guess if you ignore the win/loss record, you might be able to make some argument.
I'm certainly less enthusiastic than I was coming into the season (and I wasn't super enthusiastic at that), but schedule difficulty is a dynamic thing, so let's give it some time before completely writing this year off. I think most of us had us beating MSU coming into the season, but MSU is clearly a much better team than we, or anybody else, thought. Oklahoma, on the other hand looks like a _bad_ team right now. A&M appears to have lost a step this year. On the flip side, Kentucky might be considerably better.
Unless you are great (which we aren't) or terrible (which remains to be seen), you usually lose some you thought you'd win and win some you thought you'd lose.
I agree. This is why I'm sticking with 6-6. OU and aTm are looking much worse than expected and UK and MSU are looking better, those games may balance themselves out.
