I thought at some point I would call in to Coach Stein's show with this but I'm not the type to do call in to shows. I'm a born and raised and UK fan to younger parents who didn't have a lot of money at that point in their lives so most of my childhood was by following UK on TV and radio. I never saw any UK game of any type in person until I was 14. And I'm someone who loves UK football every bit as much as basketball
My parents had divorced and my Mom remarried and moved us off to New Orleans from Louisville. Following UK was harder in the earlier days of cable and no internet so unless it was a Jefferson Pilot Game of the Week, the only way to follow UK was getting a signal from WHAS.
We had been in New Orleans about a year in 1984 and my Mom got tickets for me and her to see UK vs. Tulane in the Superdome. Not exactly a big ticket game but I was finally going to get to see UK athletics in person.
It was a UK win but it was close, 31-26 I think. The only play that was burned in my mind from that day was UK punted,Tulane muffed the punt(it went off the Tulane returner's helmet) but a UK player was all over it, scooped the ball and it was touchdown Kentucky. The player who had his most memorable UK moment and what was a huge day in my UK fandom and the biggest play I remember from seeing my first in-person game that day was Matt Stein, Will's Dad.
