……how cool would it be to be from Louisiana? It’s not my thing, but consider:

- Best food atmosphere in the county;
- All the hunting/fishing you want;
- LSU is always good, at all sports really;
- Best branding in the country;
- state isn’t growing, but at 5M people, still big enough to be relevant for the foreseeable future;
- World class city that hosts all kind of events and is a tourism draw.

It’s weird, I don’t want to live there, but am incredibly envious of the ones that do.

seems like we have an inordinate amount of Louisiana residents that hunt in Mississippi.

I could live in New Orleans. Boudain said best foot cities in America are New Orleans, San Francisco and New York in no order. There’s always a party there. It’s not that expensive. The airport is nice.

The heat would suck, but you can take $600K and get a really nice house in the Garden District. Stay in shape and you could make a living crashing bachelorettes.

I love visiting New Orleans.. and I love leaving it. No way I could live there. The north shore is nice though. I’ve often thought if I had to live somewhere in LA I‘d find a spot between Hammond and Covington.
There are a ton of influencers who live in that corridor

Louisiana is an absolutely badass state. From sports, outdoors, to culture. While the food in LA is amazing & near the top of the heap, I can’t say it’s the best. Chicago, NYC, & South Florida scenes are all better imo.

No city can compete with New Orleans food especially SF, Chicago and nyc. Maybe Rome Bangkok or Tokyo. Just don’t get killed by a chimp

After I graduated from State I lived in New Orleans, Lafayette, and Baton Rouge. New Orleans was amazing and one of the greatest cities in the world. People hate, but once you escape the tourist traps the locals are amazing. Lafayette is completely different from NOLA, but a cool place. Actually, had a church friend invite me over for a cooking. They had killed a bunch of squirrels. I grew up eating squirrel, but they do it different. Those people ate the brains. Also, ULL is a hidden gem. Baton Rouge is Jackson, MS if Ole Miss was located in our State capitol. It is nothing like the rest of the State. Avoid Baton Rouge, but the rest of the State is great.

I grew up in Baton Rouge. My parents still live there. I have absolutely zero desire to move back to Louisiana.

My son has worked for my dad in BR for the last 3-4 Summers. He has zero desire to live/work in LA when he graduates from State.

Louisiana is a weird and shıtty state.

Don’t add living in Shreveport to any of your lists. I’ve lived here for 10 yrs now (wife from here). **** hole doesn’t describe it well enough. We’ve now moved across the state line in to Texas, but work there. Largest cesspool of dumb 17s ever been around. And don’t let a red light go out. Complete chaos. Nobody stops. Just zoom on through. Who cares. But don’t worry, 50 cent is here to save the city……..

I’ll say all that to say this, i love New Orleans. My favorite city to VISIT.

- Best food atmosphere in the county; ✅
- All the hunting/fishing you want; Great fishing. You have to be wealthy to hunt quality deer and ducks. Super wealthy go to South Texas for antlers. Working with money come to Mississippi,and Arkansas and shoot everything.
- LSU is always good, at all sports really; Their 20% of the fan base that is trashy, is the trashiest in the world. That said, they also have 20% that are among the most hospitable. I wouldn't want to be associated with the crazy fans, Neck, Kiffen, Wade, Mulkey, the Guvnah using his office to insert himself into sports, judges putting football ahead of law, laundering money through a children's hospital etc.
- Best branding in the country; Maybe New Orleans, the rest of the country sees LA as funny talking Mississippi.

Our family loves Louisiana. The people are extremely nice and I agree with the food aspect… love it! If I had to mention a few drawbacks as to not wanting to move the family there… the air stinks. It’s highly polluted. I’m not keen on bullets flying through my window and getting gunned down at a gas station. Everything feels greasy, slimy, and decaying. Driving from Louisiana into Texas id imagine feels like driving from North Korea into South Korea if that was possible.

Im being honest our family loves it though all things considered.

Cajun food is mid. It all tastes the same.
All coonasses act like carnival barkers.
They oppose the use of soap.
New Orleans is a dump that reeks of vomit and Michelob.
But they are good at sports ball, so I want to be like them.

Got it.

LSU is what Ole Miss, State, or Southern would be if every good athlete in the state went there, and all the money and emphasis was centered on one school. Mississippi excels at one thing: dividing up limited resources so much than nothing is worth a crap.

The only other thing good about Louisiana is it's easy stealing their women. Just take a bath before your date. My wife is from there.

We have a family farm in NELA. I have plenty of fond childhood memories from spending a lot of time up there, but I wouldn't live in Louisiana. Louisiana sucks, and somehow has more corruption than the other Southern states.

The city of New Orleans is one of the world's cultural treasures. In a world with increasingly flattened, corporate culture, New Orleans is one of one. It has plenty of well-documented problems, but the people are incredible.

That's kind of the point. We're from where we're from, nobody can change that. But if you're from Louisiana, it's a cool identity. Not really advocating for moving there.

I live in LA, from MS, also lived in AR and AL.
On the whole, these people are the stupidest people in country.
They call Texas A&M cult like, but LSU fans are far worse.
Baton Rouge is Jackson with an SEC school and Atlanta traffic minus the HOV lane.
New Orleans is Baton Rouge with pro sports.

ETA: lots of fishing, but the hunting is subpar at best. Most that hunt anything other than squirrel or alligator have out of state leases

My wife is from Louisiana and she still has a lot of friends from there that come up to visit or we go visit them. I like going there to visit, but I would never want to live there and she would say the same thing.

What the hell's wrong with Arkansas? Just one school in the entire state and you know they all grow up being Arkansas fans. They used to be a SWC power. You figure moving to the SEC would have made them really good. The state is about the size of Miss and you know they got a roster full of talent available. Maybe not the talent that Lousiana, Miss or Alabama has but enough to make a good team.

I've lived there. It's not a good idea to read the tourist and promotional brochures, especially about New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

* good food, unless youre allergic to shellfish. Then its kinda good but also a nightmare to navigate.

* meh, can take or leave

*LSU is good, sure. They hire people I find absolutely detestable. Don't need my coaches to be boy scouts but not being scum doesn't seem like its asking a lot.

*Had an LSU fan tell me that State people are kinda cultist about wearing maroon and representing our school. I told him to look around Baton Rouge for 5 seconds and rethink that.

*The state of Louisiana suuuuuuucks. It makes the Federal government look downright amateurish in regards to corruption.

*Baton Rouge and world class city are incongruous. The city is exceptionally poorly designed and about 20 years past due for a bypass. Also one of the most crime riddled cities in the country. Nothing about this ******** is world class.

You failed to mention the weather which is perpetually humid and hot. Its all just hot, flat, stinking swamp.

Arkansas doesn't have near the branding of LSU, and no New Orleans

Come on mane

And what the hell kinda culture does Arkansas have besides hillbilly-ing? Food? I mean yeah the Ozarks are kinda cool but other states do mountains MUCH better, even in the South - TN, NC the best, then GA.........then a gap.......then AR

The state of Arkansas just really doesn’t have a lot of football talent as compared to Louisiana and Mississippi. In years past, they had to recruit Texas pretty hard to get their roster filled out.

I see some hot takes calling Nola the best food city in the country which is incorrect, respectfully. But if you really want to have a hot LA food discussion, Nola isn’t even the best food city in Louisiana. That would be Lafayette. Who wants to have a Creole vs Cajun battle…

Most people do not even know the difference.

But yeah, I agree. I'm not a big tomato guy, so that's probably the reason.

I did a little digging on this. I talk a lot about how MSU should have been located elsewhere, but I see where Oxford won out on getting Ole Miss in the 1840s by one vote over Mississippi City, then Brandon. So yeah, seems like dividing things up has always been at the forefront of our history. Jackson was made the capital 20 years before, so why wasn't Brandon easily considered the best spot for this? Oxford, located way the hell up in North MS, or MS City, front and center for hurricanes. What an incredibly stupid bunch.

Then of course, we split up the poor people to form MSU, then we lean into racism.

So yeah, any chance of us having a Baton Rouge or Columbia, SC flew right out the window with those series of choices.
