So, does that go down as a forfeit since they didn't play the entire game? Very odd.
It will not go down as a forfeit but very disappointing. I know the HN staff was looking forward to getting their younger guys some game reps in the second half.
Homer very nearly cancelled the season due to low numbers.
I applaud them for doing their best to play the games. Many programs throw their hands up and forfeit before they play, then we criticize them for not trying.

Didn’t even have to be injury related. You have to remember the temperature last night also . With 3 kids on the bench is all maybe they just didn’t have kids that could safely finish the game . You can put health risks above just try to finish the game even with a continuous clock.
Santee vs. Scribner-Snyder just ended at the beginning of the 2nd period as Scribner-Snyder had to forfeit. It was 34-0 when the game was called.
Homer was playing C2 not that long ago. Lots of C1s and C2s from North East Nebraska have dropped down in the last 10 years.
The problem for some of these schools like Homer is there are multiple sports offered in the fall now with cross country that cuts into the football roster. Also in Homers case they get some South Sioux City rejects that don’t go out for athletics. Because with an Enrollment of 45 they should be able to field a decent roster in football and cross country.
Homer has about 60 boys in grades 9-12.
11 play football and 9 run cross country.
That’s a horrible participation rate.
If you did the same math for SSC down the road, you would expect around 100 boys to be out for football. (11/60 to 100.82/550). I bet bigger schools would love that participation rate in this generation.
I’m sure SSC would love to have that many kids out for football. Percentages of students out for activities will always be higher in a smaller school. To me it’s crazy that Homer has that few of kids out for football. Wasn’t that long ago that their numbers were good.
Homer had 29 kids out in just 5 years ago. That’s not a terrible number for eight man.
Can schools still opt down (be excluded from playoffs though)? I'm surprised Homer didnt do that if they're running such low numbers.
They have 11 players. What good what it do to drop a division in 8 man or even 6 . ? I give those 11 kids credit to try to suit up and play every week.
Man, I would think dropping down to 6-man would be more beneficial than playing 8-man when you only have 11 guys out.
So you have 5 on the sidelines instead of 3. The other thing is opposition. Consider where Homer is with Scribner -Snyder forfeiting the season you have exactly 1 team Mead that is within 115 miles of Homer to play. You think that’s really an option to have 2 more kids on the sidelines?
Depends who those 2 players are, no? If they're tiny or slow freshman or sophomores then yes, it could make a difference.
I'm not real familiar with who all the 6-man towns are much beyond central NE. But yes, that would be an important factor if making that decision.
