OT: why don’t we like color any longer

I just don't get why anyone would want the dull battleship gray on a car.
I have two red cars. Wasn't by design. One, I needed a cheap beater to make a 3 mile daily commute and found a good deal. The other is my wife's and we bought it during Covid after hers jumped time. It was the only car of the type she wanted they had on the lot due to "supply chain issues."
What's odd is that supposedly black and white cars have a much higher resale value. Beats the **** out of me why though.

I alternate between black and white trucks, white is easier to keep clean but black looks awesome when detailed

It’s not just cars. Look at houses. I bet exteriors are much whiter than they used to be. Interiors definitely are but that may be more of a short term fad. I feel like the lack of exterior color is more like cars and will be a much longer trend.
We have one gray one and one pearl white one. I had a red Corvette until I got too old to be able to get in and out of it.

I'm mostly a Toyota guy and their color schemes are a bit hit or miss for me but I like the voodoo and Calvary blue they had in the past. The lunar rock has grown on me. Currently own a Toyota suv that's blizzard pearl. Next truck will most likely be blue or green.
From my experience the last time I bought a vehicle in 2023 you can usually get the the colored vehicles for less. The white black and grey are more expensive.
I've had black on black for every car I've owned since 1992. But I went a little crazy and went gray on black for my current ride. I really wanted silver, but couldn't find one and got a good deal on this one.

The wife has the moon rock green and I'm thinking about a tundra in that color.
I had a maroon truck in the '80s with personalized State plates. The only two wrecks I have ever been involved in. Right before I got rid of it, someone t-boned it while I was in a movie theater and left. Never buying another maroon vehicle.
I question whether it is a market issue. Hardly anyone buys a custom ordered car anymore. Most people like Black, silver or white. Let's say that is 60%. Therefore dealers order mostly those colors. Then most people go car shopping and pick what is in the lot. What is mostly in the lot is those colors. I know my current truck is white and I got it only because it was a great deal and the only color that trim was in. I wanted color, but much more limited choice.

It should be against the law to name a color that doesn’t at least have the actual color in the name. Lunar Rock I’m assuming is some form of gray but I’ve also heard of a blue moon. The moon was once thought to be made of cheese so I guess it could be a shade of yellow.
My new Sierra is Metallic Rainwater. It’s a pretty light blue. I traded a black one in. I got more compliments on that vehicle than any I have ever owned; no one ever walked and said, Nice looking truck about my blue one.
