Interesting take on a week with Texas & Notre Dame in the top 3. Talk about ranking the uniforms instead of the teams. There are your two most notable offenders right there.
I don't disagree on Notre Dame, but that's happened every year for the last 100 years. Texas just beat the number one team in the country.

This has been true about the ranking forever. In the past though a voter could hold on to their expectations a little more since they knew the third string guy at Bama was a stud and mostly stuck there. In today's game with all this movement a voter needs to be much more dynamic with their ranking. You need to pay attention to games played and blow up your expectations every week and start from scratch with the new info.
With that said I am not sure MSU should be in the top 25 yet. This week will determine that.

In a perfect world there wouldn’t be a poll until everyone had played 6 or so games, but you need preseason polls to hype up games for tv and get clicks.
Texas just beat the No. 1 team in the country. Where do you think they should be ranked?
I don't understand the hate between Texas and Notre Dame. I think both of them are Top 5 teams right now. What is your top 5? My only issue I think Miami is ranked too low. They should be top 3
I think I'm immune to caring about early, or even mid-season rankings. We believe...
Notre Dame is year in and year out ranked for no good reason, and rarely do they prove that they belong.

Except they win.... only 1 mediocre 9-4 season in the last 4 years, and that was Marcus Freeman's first year. Last year they only lost 2 games at the beginning of the season to Miami, who made it to the NCG, and Texas A&M who finished the year 8th.
The year before that made it to the NCG. With one bad loss in the regular season at the beginning of the season, but beat 4 ranked teams.
I am not saying they are the best team, but they should be ranked high...
I will take a team that is 45-11 over in the last 5 years (including this year currently) any day of the week.
I think early season rankings would be great if after the first week they were based on who has the best resume. Want the early season hype, schedule some good games. LSU, notre dame, and Miami should have been 1-3 anfter the first week. Ole Miss top five. Basically you can’t be ranked ahead of anybody with a power 4 win just because you smoked a g5 team.
Week 2, you get a lot more competition and some of those teams in the top ten drop to 20’s as more teams get P4 wins and you can compare them. G5 wins only count to devalue a p4 win unless and until it’s clear a G5 team is actually comparable to at least a mid tier p4 school.
by week 6, the rankings would stabilize a lot.
All I see, with a few exceptions, is ND starting ranked on name alone, falling on their face against anyone with a pulse, and still ending up with a decent W/L record with their schedule being often very weak overall. Here is a good snapshot of one of their 10 win seasons against what MSU did. (NOTE the SOS):

So there is a year that we had to hear about ND ad nauseum while they played little sisters of the poor and took up an TV time slot for every one of them. In the last 10 years, there are exactly 3 times that their SOS has been in the top 20. MSU has had 5 years during that time with SOS in the top 20. In those years, we've still been subjected to ND fellating by the news media while they were running through a schedule that was 3 - 6 times easier than ours. Most people I know would rather have a papercut on their eye than hear anything about ND.
Historically, yes. But recently Notre Dame has:
2024 - 14-2 - lost a competitive game for the national championship
2025 - 10-2 - lost at runner up Miami by 3, lost to 11-2 playoff team Texas A&M by 1 (A&M lost to Miami in 1st round by 7)
2026 - beat Wisconsin by 28 & Rice by 52.
Hard to argue that's not a top 5 team right now.
Correct. I was just letting the OP know it is easy to not to like ND and be weary of hearing about them year in and year out. The pumping up in years they have the 60th strongest schedule and prove that they aren't very good is bad enough to cover up to half a decade of them being actually good and us having to hear about them incessantly; maybe even up to a decade. Enough words have been spoken about them in the college football landscape over the years that if we heard nothing until around 2040, it might be leveled out hype vs reality all time.

Well the problem with that is, ND no matter how you or other people in some parts of the country, They have a very big following. There alumni base might be small but very influential. ND does have a lot of viewers 8.1 million people tuned in the ND vs. Wisconsin game which blew all other games out of the water. Sorry, but yes these T.V. folks are going to talk about teams that have higher t.v. ratings more.
ND and Memphis are the same. Weak schedules. Some good players. Look really good in one or two games a year. Get by in most of their games. Fall flat on there face when they have the critical game to prove they are in fact good. Never have to play good teams in back to back weeks.
Notre Dame’s schedule this year will make them a Top 5 team even if they’re not.
At BYU and Miami will be their only true tests they have all year.
They could go 10-2 and be on the playoffs
