Great breakdown. Neither team we've played had even just 1 DB that could stay with our WRs or an elite pass rusher. SC has both, so I'm interested to see how KT responds to that.
I hate saying this but I've got to get it out, I don't like this matchup. With Stewart coming off the edge & their elite DBs, makes me nauseous. KT will have to improvise more than he'd like. Let's hope our OL is up to the task & Lebby's got some wrinkles that work.

I agree. It was obvious by the third play of the game that Minnesota didn’t have the talent to play with us. South Carolina is at least equal to our athleticism. This game will really show us what our OL and Kamario are capable of.
Anthony Smith at Minnesota was the best pass rusher in the Big 10 last year. Not saying the competition doesn’t increase across the board, but these guys have seen one of the two.
Stewart won’t be 100%. Even if he plays he will be limited in snap counts. Towson passed for 182 against USCE. I think our WRs will get plenty of opportunities to make plays against the gamecocks secondary.
Before the Minnesota game everybody was saying they were a stout B10 team. Great linebacker, great DE, experienced OL, good QB. How did that turn out ? It was over in the 2nd quarter
K1 hasn't had his Heisman highlight run yet this season. It's coming. Not sure which game, but it's coming.

Our O-line is incredibly physical and very disciplined. Minnesota had returning starters and real studs on their D-line and the guys up front handled them convincingly.

Collin's film study is great. After watching Collin's film, KT made some outstanding throws. Some of the windows were tighter than I recall and KT put it on target.
If KT can continue to grow in the passing game, watch out. Dude is a stud.
Also Lebby has a high offensive IQ. Dude may not have a lot to say in a presser but he is a great offensive mind.

I've been saying for months that O-lines play better when they feel like IF THEY DO THEIR JOB THEIR QB WILL DO HIS. I understand it's not that simple but I truly believe it starts with motivation and that motivation starts with KT .
Agree. I get that they have good DBs. But elite? And enough to keep 3 fast receivers covered? I can see that Stewart could potentially cause us real problems if he’s 100%. But as you say, that’s a real question.
If our OL holds up, we'll score a lot. I think it's that simple on offense.
Defense is tough to gauge. The only person who has run successfully on us was the backup QB for ULM. Sellers is going to be a nightmare.
I think we need to get a sizable (14 or so) lead early (USC has started slow and then caught fire both games) and hold on for dear life. Winning the turnover battle will also be huge.

One thing that I’m thinking about is that K1 is in year 2 of the Y choice and Sellers is in year 1. Our offense should be better because of it.
I bet we see a lot of three man fronts drop 8 into coverage. They will try and confuse Taylor. We will need to check down to some runs with fluff and Taylor. Once they bring a LB and safety down we will be able to probably see some zone and man coverage. That’s when we can be on attack In the pass game . The main thing will be to try and establish the run first.
Rushing a qb like Taylor (or Sellers for that matter) can sometimes only make them more dangerous.
Agree. But with our speed at WR they won’t be able to match up with us. They will try to confuse coverages so if we can establish the run with success and win 1st and 2nd down with Fluff and K1. They eventually will be forced to commit more to the run. That should open up some lanes to pass.
I see us trying to contain sellers and get him east and west.
I’m going to break it down this simply.
I think a 19 year old, 4 starts KT is already better than Sellers will ever be.
Unless we’re significantly lacking in talent everywhere else vs SC, I think we’re going to be leading this game comfortably in the 4th quarter.
And if we’re actually as good as I think we might be, this schedule is laid out very nicely with challenging but very winnable Noncon (Minnesota) and SEC (USCe & Mizzou) games frontloaded for these guys to gain experience and confidence before we get to games we’re expected to lose (but might be ready to shock some folks).
Its already obvious to me that the defensive coaching has been a huge upgrade. I’m so glad Arnett was such a quality individual and we got smart enough to foster his return. The guy understands D and clearly knows how to teach guys to play smart, but with aggression and tackle well.
This game is a stepping stone and could make it very obvious that I’m way out over my skis, but I expect us to be a happy buncha 17ers Saturday night.

We’re in the era of crazy overhype, but the more I watch KT throw the ball he is a truly special physical talent. His natural throwing motion is like nothing I’ve ever seen closely.
I’m sure there are comparable talents, but it just looks so natural and powerful it’s like a video game.
