Wow. Does he understand that we've been a model for rightwing takeovers? I'm not sure how that's gonna sit with the undecided voters Whatley needs to upset Cooper for Senate.
I don’t think he understands much of anything these days. He’s surrounded by yes men, and it’s left him completely detached from the struggles of everyday Americans. Ten years ago, he was very good at determining which way the wind was blowing on any given issue and taking the majority side. He rode that wave to absolute power and dominance over the Republican Party and right wing politics in the US.
Lately, pick almost any issue and he comes down on the wrong side of public opinion. He supports data centers. He supports Flock cameras. He’s against regulations on AI. He’s a warmonger. Et cetera. He’s lost his fastball.
We’re watching the real time destruction of MAGA due to his incompetence. The bill is coming due for the bad policies, inflation, debt, tariffs, and wars. Before this is all over, even the hardcore believers like @Mac9192 are going to realize the mistake they made.
If things don't work out with Trump, of course I will be disappointed. But to say I made a mistake? Compared to who? Kamala? Biden? Obama? Bush? Clinton? Nah. What @DuckDevil and others fail to account for is the bias factor. Trump basically has Fox News in his corner. News max isn't a big player, so hard to count them. The Democrats have CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, NY Times...
Until Trump came onto the scene, the system has been rigged for President. No one expected him to beat Hilary. He did though because most level headed Americans were tired of the system and thought we needed a change. To be determined if Trump is what we wanted, or just another empty suit in DC.

I doubt that last part. So far they've rationalized most of the complete about-faces our President has made from his campaign promises.
At this point, many of his supporters are in too deep to change. It's a defense mechanism as much as pride. President Trump may be aware of this... or he may be too far gone to realize it either way and will just reap the benefit of blind loyalty from here on.
The deck is stacked so heavy in favor for the left. It's not even debatable, but you guys stay quiet. I know you all would be screaming bloody murder if there were more news outlets like Fox. On the past Presidents and one potential one: Biden was a walking vegetable for four years, yet you guys said basically nothing about him. We know why too. The media was protecting him. Again, it's not even debatable. Kamala? Haha. As useless as Ol Joe, maybe worse. Obama? All he did was divide our country even more racially, and kicked the can down the road, taking the baton from Bush, who took it from Clinton.

Did the left or the media make Trump start a war with Iran? Did they make him impose tariffs that raised prices on everything? Did they make him push AI and data centers? Did they make him support Flock cameras? Did they make him hide the Epstein files? Did they make him and his family use the presidency to make ungodly amounts of money?
Nope. It wasn’t the left. It wasn’t the media. He did it all himself, with the full support and backing of Republicans in Congress and a stacked right wing Supreme Court. It’s time to stop blaming everyone else for their failures.
He’s taking you and the rest of the cult to the cleaners, and you’re still on here making excuses for him. Good lord, have some self respect.
President Trump has completely warped so many conservatives' sense of what self-respect even is. Like, for President Obama, self-respect meant remaining calm and composed in the face of challenging questions from the press. Now, self-respect means attacking anyone who asks a challenging question with childish name-calling and insults. Conservatives felt validated and seen when Trump was first running for President. He validated and enabled their anger. Now, because their self-respect was tied to him, they have to stay loyal or risk losing all of it. They would have to admit they made a mistake, that they were fooled by a charlatan. Some of them are too fragile for that, so they cling to our President like a he's a life raft rather than a sinking ship.
Haha! I remember Biden answering those hard ball questions with Jill holding his hand and whispering to him. Hardball questions like, “what’s your favorite ice cream?”
I didn't mention President Biden for a variety of reasons. I mentioned President Obama. And I was comparing decorum and self-respect.
I hope not, but maybe Trump will be a disappointment to the right, as Obama really was to the left. Obama was nothing more than a polished speaker, but man did he have a big supporting base. The difference is in the media. One has 7 or 8 smooching all over him, the other has 7 or 8 criticizing everything about him. Not hard to guess who is who.

MAGA has now entered the “find out” phase. While I hate to see anyone suffer, I have very little sympathy for the Trump voters who got us here. Elections have consequences, and I hope that lesson sticks with them so they don’t make the same mistake again.
Yeah, the sympathy I had for people who voted for him in 2016 after calling Mexicans rapists, mocking a disabled reporter, insulting a Gold Star family, and the Hollywood Access tape, among other things, was very low, but it's proven the high point of my sympathy and the grace I care to extend to them. In 2020 and 2024, it wasn't just us telling them what we thought he would do; there was clear evidence. They voted for him anyway. I will be reminding them of this for as long as the effects are felt, which will be a long, long time. The only way to shut me up will be owning it completely and changing their ways.
I wonder how he feels after President Trump referred to NC as the worst state in the country for crime, and called our cities "blood-soaked killing fields."

Like you said, @Ghost of Dattier, there was an enormous amount of evidence before the 2024 election that Trump was incompetent and unfit for office based on his actions during his first term. Maybe it’s reasonable to forgive people who fell for it in 2016, since there are a lot of low information voters out there. But if you voted for the guy multiple times, you deserve every bit of the ruin that comes with that decision.
Probably the same as the people in western NC who are still waiting on Hurricane Helene relief almost two years after Trump and the GOP gained power. Isn’t that how Trump won NC in 2024, after all?
I'll add that both Hillary and Kamala ran terrible campaigns. For the woman who eventually breaks through to win the Presidency, she'll have to be almost perfect. Can you imagine how far Obama would have gotten with Trump's baggage?
I agree completely. I have plenty of criticism for the people who’ve controlled the direction of the Democratic Party and somehow managed to lose to this conman twice. That reckoning will come later.
For now, the focus has to be on Trump and kneecapping the rest of his presidency at the ballot box in November. There will be plenty of time to clean house and chart a new direction for the party before 2028.

You can criticize Trump. Maybe he's as bad as the left says he is. But it's beyond laughable that anyone thinks things were good before Trump came into office. We have been on a steady decline for a long, long time. Trump did expose how corrupt the system is. Is he corrupt too? Possibly. Time will tell. What is 100% fact is how slanted the media is. The deck is severely stacked against Republicans. You guys must not see the advantage you have. Or you don't want to admit it. It would be like when unc plays Duke this season and unc getting to run 3 extra guys on the court, making it 8 on 5. Jon complains but gets T'd up. Yeah, Governor Cooper did a great job. He did absolutely nothing to help the people of Western NC when it occurred.
