I heard the term elsewhere, I think by people honoring him. He is, as I said, being treated as a sainted or deified person, and I'm gonna respond to that with irreverence. I already addressed how the Right has responded in ugly ways to people aligned or perceived to be aligned with the Left.

My parents were heavily involved in a prison ministry before my Dad died. I often went to their closing ceremonies. I would interpret it more broadly to mean we should be merciful and extend grace even to those who deserve society's punishments.

My understanding is that many in that demo are drawn to Catholicism. They embrace the structure, the tradition, the connectedness. I don't know how small a town you might live in. I frequently find myself in rooms where I'm the only straight person. Thinking you might work with a gay -- singular -- is way closer to none than my daily experience.

I don't think it's reasonable for people to pretend to be someone they're not, or to expect people to deny a fundamental piece of who they are. I don't think God does, either, with the exception of things that harm others, like rape and pedophilia. I think God is reasonable.

I don't consider the Bible infallible. The only authority we have saying it is infallible is the Bible itself, the ultimate "trust me, bro." It was written by humans, interpreted and translated, interpreted and translated. It makes perfect sense to me that Biblical passages that have been used for centuries to condemn gay people were products of the writers' worldview & limitations. There are a whole, whole lotta things that were chalked up to demonic possession for centuries before science discovered mental illnesses and neurodivergences. If it wasn't part of God's plan, whatever; I doubt cerebral palsy was, either, but here it is.
