You could see this coming a mile away when they hired Silverfield from Memphis. That was like hiring Chad Morris all over again. Silverfield had less success at Memphis as his two predecessors, Fuente and Norvell, had, and those two guys have flamed out at the P5 jobs they got. No idea what Arkansas's AD was thinking when he made that hire. It definitely did not excite the fan base, and after their relatively close win over North Alabama, a FCS team that went 2-10 last year, and the hammering they took against Utah, their worst fears have been realized. The only question is, if Arkansas goes 1-11, which is entirely possible, do they fire the AD and Silverfield already? I think they will have to.

I don't disagree. But If they fire silverfield after one year, they will be hiring Joe Moorhead or someone very similar.

Silverfield was basically their last option hire. No one else wanted it.

It has to suck to hire Silverfield as a last resort and then Memphis immediately hires a better coach with Huff. I wonder if Arkansas considered Huff?

1-11 is a real possibility with them. They have Tulsa next week, who already has a P4 win over Oklahoma State (who beat media darling Oregon). A Tulsa win over an SEC and Big 12 team immediately puts them in the drivers seat for the G5 bid.

people always say this, but there are always competent options for SEC programs. They just may not be the sexy names

Gus Malzahn would have been than Silverfield

I was going to agree with you, but I did some looking and I'm not sure what was available that was better. I think Pat Fitzgerald was probably the best option, but I'm not sure he would have taken Arkansas over the other MSU. After that, it probably was Malzahn, and then I think the next two best options were arguably Billy Napier and Neal Brown. So it doesn't look like as terrible of a hire as it did at first.

Its year one. What's his buyout ? Can Arky afford that ? They cant even afford players. It is what it is. But I bet the guy that hired him will never make another hire at Arkansas tho

What other options was out there for them when they went and hired a coach.
They thought they were getting Golesh (reports indicated this was likely) and Auburn thought they were getting Sumrall and Florida thought they were getting Kiffin. LSU hiring Kiffin shifted everyone "down" a spot. Arkansas was left out and had to scramble.

I live here and let me tell you they are at suicide level. It is glorious! I just can't believe with all the money backing them they can't go out and get a real coach.... but they are a basketball school.
Same. I’ve been here 10 years now, and one thing Razorback fans love talking about is their Walton and Tyson money, but I don’t think that they have the coffers that they think they have. I’ve never gotten the impression that those families dump a ton of $$ into Arkansas athletics
