We seemed to completely lose composure with the red zone timeouts in the first half; coaches, team, fans. And beams not having the fortitude and leadership to give Woods a snap was not good optics; Beamer kind of lost some face there. Never recovered from that.

Mississippi State has a better team and it was obvious. Execution and Discipline jump out to me, but it’s not isolated to this game alone. This is year six here.
Other than their QB they are not better than Carolina. Swap out our field goals with TD's and a missed opportunity with the hands to the face penalty, Carolina could have had 35 first half pounts.

Not prepared. But two things stand out!! The ridiculous hands to the face penalty at end of 1st. And the Int Sellers threw as a receiver was streaking wide open down the middle. Trailer by a couple
Sellers seems to always favor throwing to the open receivers furthest out, not the ones who'd make for higher percentage completions and often first downs.

Lack of leadership, players are just here for a paycheck then on to next highest bidder, poor fundamentals/coaching and a lack of discipline, which comes from leadership.

Is there any such thing as "higher percentage completions" when you aren't consistently accurate (or you're consistently inaccurate)?

I thought the piece I read a while back quoting an anonymous NFL scout who said Sellers had issues with processing during the game and with his accuracy was spot-on, based on what I'd seen going into this season. I've seen nothing so far to change my mind.

As the game went on, Sellers got tighter and tighter. Whereas Beamer was tight from beginning to end. Burning all those timeouts when he did looked ridiculous. This team is missing someone on the field that will loosen things up and get the guys in a comfort zone. I don't who that may be only that whoever it is isn't there. That said, maybe they'll play better as huge underdogs idk. We'll see soon enough but I'm not getting my hopes up. At this point I can only hope we can hang on to our FG kicker. I can only imagine what it's like playing for a coach that will say we don't want to kick FGs every time he steps up to the mic.

Secondary allowed many big plays in the passing game for TD's and the arm tackling gave them major yardage after contact in both the passing and running game. DL was in the backfield all day and holding was called a lot but also missed a lot. Pass rush gets an A. Secondary and Tackling get F's
Offense scored enough points to win and the running game was quite adequate except the 3rd Qtr. Passing game was obviously the missing link with our receivers getting very little separation from their DB's and to me there was very little imagination in our passing game. Sellers does a poor job of choosing the right target to throw to and appears to have made up his mind without progressing through his options and knowing what needs to be accomplish on each play. Also, Sellers is not the same guy running the ball as the one who won the Clemson game singlehandedly as he looks to avoid contact by getting out of bounds when there is additional yardage to be made. Passing game gets a D and running game gets a C+. Game management gets an F!

IMHO, it was the not scoring early, twice, and the bogus "hands to the face" penalty after we recovered the fumble. If we'd have scored early twice like we should have and punched it in right before the half on that fumble recovery, we'd have easily won.

I don't really have a problem with the timeouts. We needed to get off to a great start in order to have a good shot to win. We did that, until we got inside the 10 yard line. Then we had the ball at the goal line and for whatever reason..... the play calling got stupid. REALLY STUPID.

We tried to get cute / protective / whatever / and put Sellers tight up under center to do a QB sneak, and he promptly fumbled. - It was downhill from there really. The confidence was shaken, IMHO. And we played tentative the rest of the night.

The DL playing the arm tackle game didn't help. They were rushing the QB great and getting intense pressure IMHO, but for whatever reason just lacks the nastiness to put a ball carrier on the ground with any kind of ferociousness.

We left a decent number of points on the field in the first half.

I don't even think their QB was the reason they won. Our secondary was just pitiful! 3 of their touchdown passes were uncontested catches. That is just ridiculous, and let's not even talk about 3rd and 18 and you leave a receiver uncovered.

If you can stand to rewatch the game, there was a ridiculous amount of holding which is why they were often trying to arm tackle.

I don’t like to say anything about officiating because it brings the chiders out, but yeah the holding was pretty much every play and they didn’t try to hide it.

On that note, why was that official watching the state guy’s route so closely to begin with on the hands to the face call, which comes after the strip.

Nah that was two dots their qb threw on the long tds. Led his guy inside on the first and icbm-ed the second.

the receiver tried to knock our db's hands of of him to get a release and the hand went to the face. Not really the type of thing that justifies 15 yards and overturns a turnover.

Sellers, and not targeting Harbor enough, the first interception with Habor was wide open for a TD, that would of made it 30-28 and kept momentium, highlights a overall issue. We should be feeding Harbor, developing him in the main guy, Sellers should be looking his way more. Habor had 1 catch for 22 yards.

I think back to Josh Vann, when he was talking to Muschamp post game, 2021, who was at Georgia by then and, he had well over a 100 yards receiving and the cameras caught them doing the hug, and Muschamp asked where did that come from?, and he said its always beeen there, they are just throwing me the ball now.

Reading this post is classic SC revisionist game history after any loss. You can always count on:

1. We really were the best team.
2. The other team was holding and the refs never called it.
3. Any crucial penalty was "bogus".
4. If one or two plays goes differently, we win going away.

Every team that loses a game can say that if a certain play or plays had gone differently, they would have won the game. That is why teams have to play their best for a full 60 minutes in any game against a near equal or equally talented opponent.

I feel like the offense did enough to win the game. 400+ yards and winning the time of possession by 10 min should indicate a fairly comfortable win.

Although the interceptions were back breaking, what cost us the game was missed assignments in the secondary and poor tackling on defense. There were many blown coverages allowing easy wide open TDs is so uncharacteristic of Clayton White's defense. Very frustrating game.

We do have a lot of season left. Hopefully the guys can get past it and try to steal a game or two from a team we are not expected to beat.

There was one play (can't remember if it was a long pass completion or a score) were we had a guy pass rush deep into their backfield and actually got behind the QB where one of their lineman not only held our defensive player to the ground but when the QB released it the lineman was laying on top of our rusher (both on the ground). Blew my mind no call was made. Especially considering they were the only two back there.

The problem is those numbers include garbage time stats after the game was decided - 11 points were largely uncontested since they were inconsequential. The D looked lost and the O looked impotent.

BOTH units need to improve because there are much stiffer tests coming.

I agree. The amount of holding Miss State's oline got away with was astounding. Their left tackle was getting abused by our edge rushers all game and only got called a handful of times. I think they got called for holding 6 times. It should have been called on nearly every pass play.

It will be called when they play Alabama, LSU, OK and Texas. Maybe not on every play but on crucial plays like calling TDs back, etc.

Agreed. Sniggle all you want, you cannot tell me these refs aren’t told to make it harder for whoever’s not the league darling de jour.
